Upcoming Concerts
Glen Campbell, Goes On And On
I find this stance to be inspirational if not downright finger pointing to the lesser performers who cancel a show for a hangnail. Rock on Glen, you’re the man.
Another Giant Festival by Promoter Goldenvoice For 2013?
Goldenvoice and the city of Irvine have signed a contract that would allow the promoter to stage a multi-day music festival at the Orange County Great Park next year. At the center of Orange county, Irvine is at a convenient 40-mile-distance from downtown LA and they say that the festival could draw more than 150,000 people
It Is Spring Again, So It Must Be Time To Wish Theater At Westbury Was Closer
it is a fabolous room, it is the anti-T5: the gigs are in the round and so every single seat is killer. This year is pretty good as well (though not quite as good as long year). Oh, and notice Micky’s first area performance subsequent to Davy Jones death.
Pick Concerts Week Of February 27th, 2012
Last time I saw Van Halen was in 2007, at MSG as well, and they sucked. This time eound they’ve got a really good album to push and that means more than the usual “Panama” plus… so who knows right? Sold out, so if you’re not doing anything Wednesday try out Saint Motel at Mercury Lounge. And if you do have a tix, crack it early for Kool And The Gang
Fiona Apple Passwords For Bowery Ballroom And MHOW
Here you goMHOW = promise
Bowery Ballroom = Shadow
Pick Concerts Week Of December 26th, 2011
Handsome lads, those Gov’t Mules, aren’t they? I will be jamming down with the Southerners, most on leave from the Allman Brothers, this New Year’s Eve at Beacon Theater. What better way to make it past another year?
Pick Concerts Week Of December 19th, 2011
The surprise of the year has been Eric Contractor, whose debut album Night Escape, a baroque pop of immense power and beauty. Now we get to see him live on Wednesday at Sidewalk Cafe -a 7pm set.
Free show with Deadmau5, James Murphy, for the release of 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'
I still don’t get why Deadmau5, James Murphy, Proxy and Eye are having this dance party while NIN Trent Reznor has composed the score of the movie, can someone explain?
Must See Concert: Shinobi Ninja At Gramercy Theater, December 18th, 2011
If seeing Shinobi isn’t enough to get you out of the house, how about this? Madina Lake are also on the bill. That did it, right? See you there.
Why I'm Going To See My Morning Jacket Tonight
I’ve been prepping for tonight except MMJ don’t have a set setlist except they open with the dreary “Victory Song”. The band have five albums, I know one of them very well, two of them OK, and the rest not so much
Pick Concerts Week of December 12th, 2011
Sold out MSG on Friday in a Facebook presale, Swedish House Party recently added a set at Roseland later that night. These guys are the monsters of House and the most eagerly awaited concert for dance denizens this season
Pick Concerts Week Of December 5th, 2011
Fever pitch excitement for Ryan Adams at the great Carnegie Hall on Tuesday. A solo acoustic set to go along with his acoustic recent release. I have zero prediction here. It could be the set of a life time or it could be a somnabulistic nightmare. But I can’t wait to find out.
A Mulish Happy New Year
had no intention of standing for three hours -otherwise I was open to persussion, The NO SRO meant Patti Smith (one of my finalists) was out and it also meant i was leaning hard towards Fitz And The Tantrums at the Gramercy. But they would lose.
A rock nyc December!
Swedish House Mafia is the biggie here, a swift sell out (in never got past the Facebook presale). This is a huge gig for them (I believe they’re recording it), not only is it at MSG -a big room by most standards, but for dance fans anyway, it is the biggest thing this side of Miami (Or Ibiza).
Howard Devoto & The Buzzcocks Reunite
For the first time since 1977 Devoto will front the infamous Buzzcocks which could be potentially be the most amazing (or pathetic) concert of all time.
Must See Gig: Laura Marling At The McKittrick Hotel, December 11th, 2011
She needs more “Ghosts” in her backpocket, and she needed to learn more from ex Charlie Fink. To put it bluntly, Laura’s songs are beautifully crafted, and she has a lovely voice, but they are not memorable enough. Stil, I would like to see her
Pick Concerts Week Of November 28th, 2011
Steve Wynn still sounds like Lou Reeds more harmonious kid brother, and Miracle 3 sound like the Byrds on acid, so Friday’s gig at Bowery Electric is a must see.
Pick Concerts, Week Of November 21st, 2011
So I am back on Tuesday (she is also performing Monday) for the Speak Now MSG stop. What do I expect? More of the same. Why am I going? Because it’s Taylor Swift.
Frank Ocean Adds Night At Bowery Ballroom -Sold Out, Of Course
Next year Frank Ocean will break big. When last seen, Katy Perry was sucking bad at Jingle Ball 2010, so why go to see her at MSG on Wednesday. I dunno, for that whole pop zeitgiest thing maybe, for the entire pop moment experience… for, ah what the hell, just go.
Must See Concert: Jeff Magnum At BAM In January
The Neutral Milk Hotel cat came out of retirment this year and has played a handful of gigs about town -incuding Occupy Wall Street, But even if he played everyday, two nights, a Friday, Saturday no less, is a big big deal in indie land
Must See Concert: Jane Birkin, Sunday, December 11th, 2011
A chanteuse with a light voice and a saucy underneath, the sexy starlite never comes across even close to matronly though she must be in her 60s. D’accord?
Must See New Year's Eve Gig? Fitz And The Tantrums At Gramercy Theater
. If you have never seen Fitz And The Tantrums live, don’t let their recorded work fool you, this is a raucuous r&b daance band who can blow any stage apart.
Entire Albums Not Represented At Kanye West And Jay-Z Concert
I was surprised at some of the albums missing . Jay-Z passing on Kingdom Come Reasonable Doubt and American Gangster?Yeah weird but nothing compared to Kanye West’s ridiculous decision to ignore debatably his greatest achievement 808s And Heartbreak
Pick Concerts Week Of November 7th, 2011
MSG on Tuesday? Big time. Why? Not Jay-Z, who has been getting worse ever since his retirement at the very same venue. Who hasn’t toured behind Dark Fantasy and is playing songs from his masterpiece.
