In the late 1970s, early 1980s, i was either working at a bar or reviewing a concert every new Year's Eve and by the time I hit the 1990s, I had given up on NYE in its entirety. I didn't even bother with 1999.
But, I decided to go to see My Morning Jacket at MSG NYE 2008 and a new tradition began.
2008 NYE MMJ
2009 NYE Mariah Carey
2010 NYE Chuck Berry
Which brings us to 2011. The criteria? I had no intention of standing for three hours -otherwise I was open to persuasion, The NO SRO meant Patti Smith (one of my finalists) was out and it also meant i was leaning hard towards Fitz And The Tantrums at the Gramercy. The Gramercy is a fabulous room and they have seats as well. $63? Why not? because the VIP seats at a buck fifty get first shot at em…
I've seen Govt Mule once before, in the early 00s , and liked them a lot so the tradition continues…
