Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases 9-18-15 – 9-24-15

Of the big ones I am not impressed with, put Keith Richards at the top of the list and then add Chris Cornell, Mac Miller, Metric, The Front Bottoms who are emerging into one of the biggest disappointments, then moved to the maybes with Lana Del Rey, Motion City Soundtrack, Mercury Rev, Robert Forster, David Gilmour and Lucero. Finally, the battle for most intimating, intimate, and anticipated album of next week… no not Robert Delong or Darlene Love but RUDIMENTAL!!! If only because it includes one of Bobby Womack’s last vocals. And not only because of that either.

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases 9-11-15 – 9-17-15

Prince, who was great on GMA earlier this week, is a Tidal exclusive and while I certainly might pay ten bucks to own his new one, I won’t pay ten bucks to rent it for a month by subscribing (the real question is: will Hov and Bey make their next albums exclusives. I’d claim it is between Craig Finn and The Libertines, I was streaming some of the Finn album and it sounds like his last solo without the flat out masterpiece “Honolulu Blues”. So I guess I’ll go with the Popdose’s Ken Shane recommended The Libertines.

Sneak Peaks: 9-4-15 – 9-10-15

This is one of the more interesting weeks of music, Iron Maiden, Public Image Ltd, Travi$ Scott, should all have something of value coming down. A little further in, Against Me! live album has sounded great so far, but it seems to me to be a toss up between happy punks Fidlar and voice of a generation punks The Wonder years. I am going with the Katter despite not being crazy about any of the songs I’ve heard because… well, because they’re the voice of a generation.

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases 8-14-15

After all the action last week (er, I mean yesterday), this seems a little on the “when nothing happened” side of life, unless you’re in the market for play the sleeve (er, picture on the cover) and throw away the album Grace Potter side of life. Maybe , for no really good reason though “Sippy Cup” is a different type of pop song.

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases Week Of June 22nd, 2015

Bilal might be a biggie true, 2013’s A Love Surreal was terrific and the one time I saw him live he was very good. The current single with Big K.R.I.T. is a goodie. Bassnectar released one of the best albums of 2014, but he was a bore on stage and it is a little soon for an new album, also the EP sampler was a disappointment. I’m going with Vince Staples.I’ve got a feeling about his first solo album, the Odd Future collaborator has been waiting years for his turn and the three songs I’ve already heard off Summertime ’06 have been excellent.

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases Week Of June 15th, 2015

The Neil Young album is his 36th, an agitprop assault on agritbusiness, and probably better than his 37th, the Willie Nelson son one, but not good enough either. I did a partial review of the Giorgio Moroder album a week ago, and I guess it is my most anticipated in any real sense, I mean it isn’t Hilary Duff or Hudson Mohawke that’s for sure, or Nate Ruess who seriously lacks consistency here, James Taylor I’ve heard and plan to review very soon, Adam Lambert? Third Eye Blind? I guess it isn’t as good a week as it looked at first. I haven’t heard Araabmuzik in ages, “Day Dreams” is a great song as well. . Let’s go with him.

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases Week Of June 8th, 2015

if this was a better week I wouldn’t have gone with Muse, of the four songs I’ve heard only one is a killer, everything else is various degrees of whatever. But who else? Jenny Hval wrote the quietly distressed “Death Of The Author” but over an album the Oslo native is a little too much. Of Monsters And Men are one of the least thrilling bands in the world. The Guardian called Drones “an Orwellian break-up album”, so that should do it, right?

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases Week Of May 18th, 2015

The Milk Carton Kids newbie is a drag as far as this philistine can tell, twenty one pilots is good not great, same goes for Joanna Gruesome’s big time sophomore effort. Ceremony? I’m a non believer. Jamie Foxx always sucks. Tanlines, Hot Chip, Total Babes -they could all go either way. That leaves it between the excellent Jim O’Rourke and the bad ass Thee Oh Sees. I’m going with Thee Oh Sees, in difference to my buddy Mike Long’s opinion

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases Week Of May 11th, 2015

you know how how in poor societies, the denizens eat every part of an animal, my dad, who was raised poverty stricken, would eat the brains, the marrow in the bones, and the eyes of sheep. Well, Leonard Cohen has been doing the same thing with his music ever since he discovered all his money was embezzled. Two live albums, and now oddball covers from his concert soundchecks Can’t Forget: A Souvenir Of The Grand Tour. I’m not complaining at all, the one thing I’ve heard is a goodie. And while the Paul Weller, Surfer Blood, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and JD Souther, all have my attention., most anticipated remains Leonard Cohen.

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases, May 4th, 2015

This looks difficult but it is a no brainer. Everything I’ve heard off the new Mumford And Sons and My Morning Jacket albums has been pretty damn second rate and both look like disasters. Sure I like Palma Violets, youngsters and with talent, and I like Todd, an olderster with talent. The Metz album will be a goodie, basically definitely and Boney James… wait a second BONEY JAMES??? The most anticipated is Best Coast

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases Week Of April 27th, 2015

I’ve had the new Blur on heavy rotation all week and while it is certainly better than I expected, “There Are Too Many Of Us” was the worst of it, I am obviously not dying of expectation. Raekwon? Maybe. Odessa, the Weepies, Crocodiles, the Brian Jonestown Experience… all subjects of great interest, BUT MARTIN GORE SOLO???? This is actually his second solo album (anybody remember 2003’s Counterfeit?) and wins most anticipated with ease…

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases Week Of March 30th, 2015

This looks like an okay week but I don’t think it really is. I have heard songs off The Prodigy, Sufjan Stevens, and Death Cab For Cuties, and was not impressed with a single one. Ringo Starr hasn’t done much worth getting excited since the late 1970s, Godspeed! were pretty well hyped with their last album but it sucked anyway, and calling your new release The Album About Nothing is looking for trouble. Which leads me with Darius Rucker who is seldom great but always good for a “Comeback Song” here and there, as my most anticipated of the week.

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases Week Of March 23rd, 2015

I’ve been listening to the Laura Marling album all week and it is excellent, if not as great as her 2013 effort, Courtney is well hyped but a little samey for my tastes… Earl Sweatshirt? He would be my choice for most anticipated of the year except… VAN MORRISON… If there are any more songs as great as “Irish Heartbeat” or “Some Peace Of Mind”, it will be immediately one of the top ten albums of 2015

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases Week Of March 9th, 2015

Kinda lame, things have been on the quiet side sincea thrilling January. The Week of 3/2 was unbelievably quiet. Indeed, I only reviewed 10 albums. And Net week looks quieter. Undoubtedly, Rebel Heart is the story… but having said that my choice for most anticipated is Olly Murs, who is always up!! The two songs I’ve heard split the difference but the rest should be OK

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases Week Of February 16th, 2015

Absolutely the new Mavericks is the one we all have our eyes on, Juliana Hatfield? Really, doesn’t she hate everybody for making her play rock and roll or something? Why is she back with her old band? Kate Pierson? The B-52s stalwart has already released two great songs off her debut album so year, I am up for it. Colin Hay???? Still at work but yeah, it’s The Mavericks.

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases Week Of February 9th, 2015

January was so strong it seemed like we were heading for a dream year but two weeks into February and not so much. Maybe, I am not a huge fan but she has a great voice, so MAYBE, Rhiannon Giddens, maybe the new Stabbing Westward offshoot album will kill it (maybe) BUT OTHERWISE??? I loved “Adios” so let’s give it to Ricky Martin… plus two Martin picks on the same day. Why not?

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases 2015

Will Laura Marling have the best or the second best album of the year, can Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper live up to its name (the first single suggests not so much) or whether Justin Towne Earle’s can threepeat and papa Steve finally offer a decent album this decade. Oh look, another Ty Seagul album, how novel

Sneak Peaks Week of December 8th, 2014

I like Royce but anticipating? I am sick of Ghostface and never liked Angels & Airiwaves. So it is between the Smashing Pumpkins and J. Cole. The songs off the SP album already released are uniformly excellent but J. Cole was so great on stage this year, I’m going with him.

Sneak Peaks: New Releases Week Of November 17th, 2014

Hmmm, the new new McCartney tribute album looks major to my untrained ears, Savages are back and with a japanese acid punk band from the UK (giving the word “pardon” whole new vistas of meaning, a new Ariel Pink, a new Bryan Ferry which I’ve heard and I like, and Ariel Pink who has never done it for me but there is a first time for every thing, all possibilities. But I expect the new One Direction to be masterful, the songs I’ve heard have been great and anticipation is sky high

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases Week Of November 10th, 2014

I expect Röyksopp and Ne Yo to be good, I expect …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead and Big K.R.I.T. to be good, and I know Marianne Faithful will be excellent because I’ve been listening to it on NPR First Listen. But I anticipate the new Pink Floyd. As for the Foo Fighters? This is a no loser situation, good or (much much more likely) lousy, I highly anticipate some big chuckles.

Sneak Peaks: Upcoming Album Releases Week Of October 6th, 2014

it’s a quiet week and that’s one reason I would’ve made Johnny Marr my most anticipated but I can’t because it is already on Spotify. Still, it is a damn good album, beter than the new Weezer. What I’ve heard of the new Jackson Browne is aces if fairly typical. But no… not really. So what? How about Jason Aldean? Nope. Flying Lotus? EDM grabs me at first but wears off. I am going with Ali campbell, the UB40 leader.

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases week Of September 1st, 2014

Don’t get too excited over the James Taylor album, it is not just a 2004 album, it is also just a covers album, and that leaves you with the Kooks on one hand and Jeezy on the other fighting it out for most anticipated album of the week but neither of em have particularly good singles spun off and Maroon 5 have two out of three (“Animals” is too generic), plus Adam Levine is the one pop star who can bring it live. So yup, Maroon 5 by a bottled blonde.

Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases w-o 8/25-14

So the summer is over, kids are back at school and we’re still hear readying for Autumn with a busy week of new music, starting with Ariana Grande, who has released two good tracks from this alum and has also appeared on a number of other killer tracks this year and will probably have come up with the goods for her second but really her first album.
