Upcoming Concerts
The Immediate Family Celebrates New York and The East Coast
Modern day rock royalty “The Immediate Family” will be appearing at Adler Hall at the New York Society of Ethical Culture on Saturday November 20th, 2021, with special guest Willie Nile.
The Rolling Stones May Play The Fonda On Wednesday?
There is currently a rumor, the Rolling Stones may be playing a surprise and intimate show on Wednesday in Los Angeles… What? After all, they did it before, a few years ago they announced a surprise show at the Echoplex, I got on line very early in the day, but never got a ticket because it was a stupid lottery! However, the other day, I met someone who was lucky enough to get in, ‘I could have resold my ticket for thousands of dollars’ she told me… yeah, but she didn’t!
Muse Playing Webster Hall Gig May 8th, Presale Tomorrow (and unless you’re already a member of their fanclub forget a code)
Forgive him if you will, one thing for sure, Muse’s gig on May 8th at Webster Hall (they are playing an invite only gig the next day at IHEARTRADIO Theatre) should be quite an invent. They filled MSG, they should blow the roof off Webster Hall… but I’m not going.
Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti Announces LAoki, A Free Steve Aoki Concert
This is what happens when you have a hipster running the city hall… are Los Angelinos ready for more stuff like this? Mayor Eric Garcetti, who is always concerned by (bad) music, will give you, in collaboration with Dim Mak Records, ‘LAoki’, a free Steve Aoki downtown LA on Saturday May 16th.
The Rolling Stones Playing Gramercy Theatre: Top Ticket $100K
This includes a meet and greet with Charlie Watts and a portrait by Ron Wood. Unfortunately, Mick and Keef will not be making themselves available though Mick will dedicate a song to you at the performance and you will be considered a “Stones Benefactor”. Also, you will get four free tickets to the show of your choice. Also, the deluxe Sticky Fingers in every available format. After ticketmaster charges , the final price will be $120,000.
Must See: Marshall Crenshaw At City Winery, Friday, May 28th, 2015!
Unfortunately for me, I have plans tos ee Ed Sheeran when Crenshaw returns to City Winery on Friday, May 28th, 2015, otherwise I am definitely ready for another visitation… I swear, if I had another kife to live I would be the man’s publicist. No messing around, Crenshaw is one of our greatest songwriters, go see him.
Monty Python At Screening Of “Holy Grail”
Talk about a must see, the remaining Python’s all under the same roof (the roof in question being Beacon Theatre) as part of the Tribeca Film Festival on April 24th (a Friday!) and while I expect we don’t get much from them, it is like, well, to be obvious, if the Beatles reformed to play “All You Need Is Love” -just one song, but would you want to miss it? I think not.
An Online Leak From City Parks Foundation’s SummerStage
The non-profit City Parks Foundation’s famed SummerStage performing arts festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary season in 2015. To get fans pumped for the summer and to shake off a case of the late winter blues, SummerStage will leak the names of 30 artists performing at the citywide festival starting on March 9t
Must See: The Bakersfield Breakers This Sunday, March 8th, 2015
The band we loved to hate till we saw em live (twice!) and changed our minds are back again with a new album, the poetically named Wilder Mind and a tour, lotsa festivals it says here, Gentlemen Of The Road. When will this be happening? May 4, apparently. And apparently they are putting down their banjos for an electric sound.
Maroon Five Are Playing Locally, Here Is The Setlist (Spotified)
Maroon 5 are performing a skimpy though career spanning 17 song set. Three out of the four songs from V (their latest) are already hits, though the five songs from Overexposed feels like overkill and surely Songs About Jane is over represented
Kat Edmonson Is Playing Le Poisson Rouge, Here Is The Setlist Spotified
My problem with The Big Picture is my problem with Kat: her voice is so damn distinctive even when she is covering blues, country, rock, it all sounds like Kat. Good over a coupla of songs but a little too much over an hour. But I may be wrong and this is a great setlist.
Must See: Azealia Banks At Irving Plaza, May 2015
Banks is performing at Irving Plaza on May 11th, the first time in years (I’ve been keeping an eye out since “212” and haven’t heard of any gigs). There is a Live Nation Mobile presale today at 10am for the gig and this is a must see.
Willie Nelson To Play Free Gig At Prospect Park In August, 2015
I think, and I believe I can prove this, that standing for three hours to hear Willie take a catnap is one of the seven rings of hell. It is puishment for all the wrong you’ve ever done. The only way I’d go is if he sang a medley of “To All The Girls I Love Before” and “On The Road Again”.
Kanye West And Rihanna To Tour Together this Summer
ReeRee plays up to the competition, the only time I’ve seen her put on a good show was opening for young Eminem, where she was forced to raise her game through the roof and here is an idea if they wanna play Stadium, why not invite McCartney? Imagine that for a second, Paulie can do an hour in the middle and blow the youngsters minds.
Must See Laura Marling At Warsaw, March 23rd, 2015
Warsaw is not my idea of a terrific pace to see a band -who wants to deal with Brooklyn? It says here take the L Train to Bedford Ave but then what? Still, I did it for Roulette (which ended up being two blocks away from the Barclay center) so I guess I’m stuck doing it here.
Must See: Ed Sheeran At Forest Hills Stadium, May
I’ve always liked Ed, he is like a miracle of science, a guy who quite literally did it his way and yet managed to get away with singer songwriter angst and pop moves I’ve never seen him perform poorly. So consider this an absolute must see.
Governors Ball By Day 2015
What stands out here is what stood out before: the lack of the slamdunk. No one day blows your mind. Saturday is a dog, Friday is the best, and Suday? Do you really wanna hang around to catch the Black Keys… I dunno…
Let’s Active: rock nyc Concert Picks Week Of february 16th, 2015
The former singer with the silky sensational 1970s band Shalamar, wh continued with an exemplary solo career, it is never not worth your while to pay your respects to the great singer and dancer, one of the original MTV superstars, and a terrific artist, Jody Watley. At BB Kings on Wednesday.
Amanda Shire New EP, Opening For Lee Ann Womack At City Winery
I can’t say I much care for “I Follow Seas” either and I just hope and pray they are not working on an album together. The couple bring out the worst in each other. It’s all so dark and lovely… The fiddle is dusky and not cool and the dup harmonizing is grating in its tastefulness. It sounds like the definition of middle class.
D’Angelo Presale Code For March 11th, 2015 Best Buy Gig Is Here!!! Tickets Go On Sale At 10AM Today
So I got my ticket yesterday for the Best Buy Theatre on West 44th gig on AMEX presale but what about folks without an AMEX card? Well, there is an AXS presale code and again rock nyc is proud to provide it. The tickets go on sale today (Thursday February 12th) at 10am.
All Your Favorite Musicians To Celebrate David Lynch’s Music At The Ace Hotel
On Wednesday April 1st, another perfect fit for the place will be celebrated: David Lynch and his music with performances by Duran Duran, Jim James, Karen O, Moby, Angelo Badalamenti, Chrysta Bell, Donovan, Julee Cruise, Kinny Landrum, Rob Mathes, Sky Ferreira, Steven Drozd and Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Tennis, Twin Peaks, Zola Jesus
A Busy Day For New Concert Sales
Some days you wake up and a whole lotta shows go on sale and you really wanna see em and somedays they don’t. I hadn’t bought a ticket in over a week when boom boom boom, everywhere I looked, another show I wanted to see was on sale. Dig deep, Iman, I said to myself…
Must See: Cursive’s “The Ugly Organ” Concert Hits Bowery Ballroom
Everything kicks off tonight in Denver, with each night’s setlist featuring songs culled from across the band’s seven albums – including their most recent, 2012’s I Am Gemini – in addition to drawing heavily from The Ugly Organ. A cellist will also accompany the band throughout the tour to perform on all songs from that album’s era.
D’Angelo March 11th Gig At Best Buy Presale Today (Feb 11th) At 10am (Plus Setlist Spotified)
Set up by a jazz fuel obtuse and angular version of Roberta Flack’s “Feel Like Making Love”, the primary soul man of his generation followed the song with “Really Love” and “One Mo Gin”. This was a double up so great you may have to go back to Van Morrison following “Gloria” with “Caravan” in 1974 to find a better one.”
Must See: Don Giovanni Showcase This Weekend At the Knitting Factory
The line up is pretty stellar as always (though not putting California X and Nude Beach the same night is the definition of fucking with us), especially Worriers who are a terrific band, Black Wine and Shellshag… Nuclear Santa Claust … but really when it comes to Don Giovanni you just can’t go wrong
Taylor Swift Announces Tour With Haim!
ere at Rock NYC we have covered the valley sisters since their humble beginning, I saw them at a tiny street fair (the Hudson Block Party) then at the Twilight Concert Series in Santa Monica in May and July 2012, Iman saw them opening for Mumford and Sons at Barclay Center early 2013, but I really heard about them for the first time early 2012, when Ryan Adams joined them on stage at the Echoplex… yes, the tiny Echoplex and now they are playing the Staples Center with Swift, just three years later
Punk, Tats, More Pink, In SoCal? Must be Musink 2015!!!
Our Alyson is trying to get over for at least a day and I don’t know what she plans but if I only had one day I could go, my eyes would be on Off! followed by Bad Religion. Though Rancid? Yelawolf? Blink 182? See what I mean?
David Byrnes Presents Presents “Contemporary Colors” At Barclay Center This June, 2015
Off season they do their own thing—still employing flags, rifles and sabers—but their routines are less about formation than about themes, emotion, concepts and visual spectacle. Over recent decades, the teams have evolved into something strange and wonderful
Dr. John To Channel Satchmo, February 27th At Town Hall
I love Dr. John and I worship the ground Armstrong walked on, so what’s not to like, right? How about starting with this: I wasn’t crazy about Ske –Dat- De -Dat The Spirit Of Satch when it was released. “He came to me in this dream and said, ‘Do my stuff — your way,'” said the 73-year-old pianist
Must See: SugarBad Funk Soul Combo At Rockwood II This Friday
Lisa Ramey has unbelievable pipes, she doesn’t sound like the UK soul singers working the EDM side of pop soul all over the UK, she sounds old fashioned, and funky and the horns are blasting like a mutated Maceo. The title track is masterful and “Teacher” sounds like the Small Faces with a female Steve Marriott soundalike.
Bjork’s “Vulnicura” Streaming Way Before Release… And It Is Great… Listen Here
With synthesizers and strings, with sounds that are not like anything else and lyrics that touch the heart like Post happened yesterday, there is an clarity to her compassion, a stirring “in my heart is in my breast like love” goes one lyric and it is a gorgeous sentiment. “I did it all for love” Bjork claims
Bjork 2pm Concerts? Yeeeeeesssssssss
Since I am going to Governors Ball, and since I saw Bjork last time she played, an excellent gig at Roseland, I was gonna pass on the City Centre – Carnegie Hall gigs until…. TWO PM SATURDAY AFTERNOON CONCERTS!!!
D’Angelo Presale Code For the Apollo Theatre, Harlem, February 7th, 2015 Gig Available HERE!!!!
So I emailed Ticketmaster to ask them, a hail Mary and they came through and so does your everloving rock nyc who DOES NOT CHARGE FOR PRESALE CODES, when we can get em.
D’Angelo Playing Apollo Theatre February 7th, Good Luck Getting A Ticket
A friend of mine does business with WBLS but they go on sale at 10am on Monday (MLK day) and I doubt I will hear back on time, Apollo A List is a $75 charge so screw that and Ticketmaster presale…? What’s that about? I tried everything. I even tried phoning em, got throught to an automated system who advised me everybody was busy and disconnected me.
Must See: Snoop And Diddy, January 2015
Hot 97 Presents: The Tip-Off starring Puff Daddy & Snoop Dogg on February 12 th. 2015. A Thursday, which isn’t a Friday but isn’t a Sunday either. And the chance to see two legends, one of whom stands as the inventor of modern hip hop and the other one of the great voices of rap.
Must See: Belle And Sebastian At Radio City June 2015
The opening acts, Real Estate and Diarrhea Planet. Real Estate are boring live but a half hour set might handle that problem and really, they’re a band I always feel I kinda miss out on for some reason. I once saw one of the members smoking pot which has nothing to do with anything of course but I thought I’d share

Lauryn Hill Small Axe, Large Prices
That’s right, the cheapest ticket is $125. What world do you pay $125 to hear this hoarse nitwit perform whenever she can be bothered. Lauryn Hill is delusional and this won’t help in the slightest. Forget it refugee…
Must See: Lee Ann Womack At City Winery, April 2015
Lee Ann, at 48 years of age, is an old fashioned country singer from a linage that includes Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton, a countrypolitan songwriter who can sell a song and a singer-songwriter who can dig down deep. A must see.
Must See: The Temptations And The Four Tops On Broadway, January 2015
if the Temptations still has Otis and Duke Fakir is the only name I recognize in the Four Tops, but then again after Levi Stubbs it’s a little hard to care and since Levi has left the building, here we are now with two original member between two groups who are playing a week at the Palace on Broadway
Must See: Miranda Lambert At Madison Square Garden, March 2015
The setlist isn’t bad either, more than half from the past two albums and I am a big Platinum fan so I don’t mind that. Plus a ZZ Top and a Merle Haggard cover to take you home. I coulda done with a couple more from from Ex-Girlfriend but it’ll do if it has to.
Must See: Kat Edmonson At Le Poisson Rouge, March 2015
Consider Kat an updated Diana Krall matched with Joni Mitchell US Division. Kat is from Houston, a bit of shocker given her urban sensibility, and while she can’t arrange as well Diana or write as well as Joni, she can arrange better than Joni and write better than Diana.
Must See: Manu Koch And Filtron M At Iridium, December 8th, 2014
Manu Koch’s four song EP with Filtron M Mandatory Underground released in November blew away everyone who bothered to listen, travelling through the backroads of jazz and beats, it reminded me of all the greats, all the people who delved into rock and a whirling world of sound eccentricities
Yusuf/Cat stevens At Tower theatre, Philadelphia, Thursday, December 4th, 2014, Reviewed
With a full band behind him, Cat commanded the stage with an off handed self-confidence which had the audience jumping up and down like izitsos and a seriously great set list, the show highlighted everything we loved and a couple of things we don’t love about him
Must See: "Soul Nativity" December 12 – 14 & December 19 – 21
“Diablo Love” gave Doncker the impetus for his Howlin’ Wolf covers album and stood up as a brilliant conceptualization for the Devil at the crossroads so much the heart of the blues. But for Christmas Preisser is tackling God from the other side:
Must See: Kenny Chesney And Jason Albarn At Metlife, August 2015
A nosebleed for $72 and a quick check out of Spotify hater Jason Aldean dirt road thing watcha and sexually ambiguous Kenny Chesney for whom I heard a terrific rumour where he is transgendered which probably isn’t true but would be awful cool if it was.
Must See? Bob Seger At MSG December 19th, 2014
I’ve never seen Seger live and the only way for me to be sure is to take a look at him in concert. I would hope that if you read rock nyc it is for an informed opinion and the only way to have an informed opinion is to do the work, even if it is painful. So, yeah, I am gonna check him
Foo Fighters Want You To Wait In Line For Concert tickets
I wouldn’t stand in line for… anyone. No, wait, maybe 20 years ago I stood in line for three hours to get Brian Wilson to sign a CD for me… but otherwise. Still, aging rockers of all stripes might indeed fight the boys…
TONIGHT!!! Tunisian Protest Singer Emel Mathlouthi LIVE@365
I am, obviously, quite familiar with Arabic pop and Emel sounds less like Trip Hop goes to Palestine, and more like The Weeknd or maybe I mean Lorde with all the electronica going on, meets Fairuz and it is very very good.
