But the chance to see the two women, on the same stage, for the same $45, in a club the size of Webster makes another viewing an absolute must. On a Saturday as well, May 10, as Spring has sprung at Webster Hall: the very definition of a must see is two great performers in a small club.
By one of those odd twists of fate, the show is May 15th, the night before Elbow at Webster Hall. So two huge UK bands in a row. Good luck getting tickets though apparently they aren’t for sale yet any way.
This, along with the (sold out) Wonder Years are the two big shows, the coming out pary for the bands who have been bubbling under the radar (except here, where Mary has written about them constantly) throughout the 2010s and are not awaiting their turn.
Can we do something about that Fest name? Rockstar Energy Drink? Really? I mean I understand that its sponsored by the chemical giant but really cant you find a way to subtle it down?
What would I have him play this time? Since I will probably only get one, I guess I’ll stick with “Radio Girl” but if I get more? His awesome cover of Dave Alvin’s “Jack And Diane” , anything off Life’s Too Short, maybe I’m Sorry *But So Is Brenda Lee)”, Hendrix “Fire”…
The album is excellent and so was 2011’s build a rocket boy which I dismissed out of hand. What can I say? I couldn’t hear it to say my life. I think it is Garvey’s voice that put me off, he sounds like Thom Yorke if Yorke was a baritone. Anyway, all is forgiven
I do understand that its a job that needs to be done but there is an eerie sort of disrespect in it taking place so soon. Will they install a hologram? I mean they do have that science nerd schtick.
At the very least, Andre was central to those early Prince gigs (he even sang on “Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad”) and as an early friend, playing with Prince in Grand Central, his influence on Prince’s bass sound is self evident
I’ve never seen her on stage but apparently she was big on costume changes and production designs so all I will add at this time is I would really love to see her, if only to hear “The Man With The Child In His Eyes” live in person… so will she play New York?
Berlin, featuring the stunning Terri Nunn, are going back on the road decades after “Take My Breath Away” lead New Wave mainstream and opened the floodgates. Hot on the heels of last year’s Animal, which is nothing if not rowdy dance crank stuff.
That means it will be a complete bitch to get one if you don’t have one and I don’t have one because I already saw the band without Gregg. And while I absolutely don’t regret having seen em now I’m obsessing about seeing the band with Gregg for the last last last stand!!
