LILY ALLEN TO PERFORM AT NEW YORK CITY'S HIGHLINE BALLROOM ON MAY 15TH

Lily to perform at the Highline!

Lily to perform at the Highline!

I caught Lily Allen’s last performance in New York City back in 2009 and am thrilled to annouce that she will be appearing there again on May 15th, 2014. The 2009 show was in support of her excellent It’s Not Me, It’s You, album and this performance is in support of the not sounding half as good upcoming album Sheezus. Though an hysterical title!

here is what I garnered from the press release though when I went to buy em they weren’t on sale yet:

April 8th, 2014 – Burbank, CA – British pop singer Lily Allen has announced that she will perform a one-off show at New York City’s Highline Ballroom on May 15th to celebrate the release of her new album Sheezus, which is due from Warner Bros. Records in the U.S. on May 6th. The Highline Ballroom show is Allen’s first concert in NYC since her April 2009 show at the Roseland Ballroom. While in New York, Allen will also appear on The Today Show on May 14th and on Live With Kelly & Michael on May 23rd.

 Tickets can be purchased here.

Sheezus is Allen’s first album since 2009’s acclaimed It’s Not Me, It’s You. The album finds her re-teaming with her long-time collaborator Greg Kurstin (Tegan & Sara, P!nk), except for on the title track, which was produced by DJ Dahi, and “Air Balloon,” which was produced by Shellback.

At the end of 2013, Allen released two songs simultaneously – her cover of Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know,” which reached No. 1 in the U.K. and the download-only track “Hard Out Here,” which charted in the British Top 10 that same week. Critics have already weighed in on “Hard Out Here,” with Esquire exclaiming: “Job done, then: back with a bang,” and NME noting that she is “striding back in after four years out of the game.” Entertainment Weekly called the track “a booming critique of pop’s double standard” and “a lot of fun.”

Since emerging in 2006 with her iconic debut single “Smile,” Allen has gone on to sell over five million albums worldwide. Her huge success in the U.K. not only quickly spread around the world but also helped shift the musical axis toward young female artists. Her talent as a songwriter was acknowledged in 2010 when she won three Ivor Novello Awards. That same year she announced she was taking a break from making and performing music. In 2013 Allen returned to the studio, having spent the previous three years raising her young family and establishing her own record label.”

By one of those odd twists of fate, the show is May 15th, the night before Elbow at Webster Hall. So two huge UK bands in a row. Good luck getting tickets though apparently they aren’t for sale yet any way.
