Le Butcherettes At Amoeba, Thursday September 17th 2015 Review

‘We can all be free if we want to,’ she also said in the interview. ‘You take those transmissions and become A Raw Youth or part of that oppressive society. Youth doesn’t mean young. It’s the essence of being resilient against so many of life’s struggles. In every decade or era there’s always a rebel who gives inspiration for the poets to write about. That person holds the light. These songs tell those tales.’

Keith Richards Can’t Stop Loving Ed Sheeran

‘These days? You know what? Ed Sheeran is really interesting to me… Yeah, yeah. Lovely guitar and he’s a one-man band at the moment but he has the potential. And James Bay. They’re the two that come to mind immediately.” ’60s and ’70s legends seem to just love the shit out of Ed Sheeran; you should hear Elton John talk about him on his Beats 1 Radio show.’

Greg Graffin To Present His New Book ‘Population Wars’

‘In that respect, it’s my worldview on ecology, and the persistence of species and communities of populations that are currently existing on the planet. Let’s face it: Our community, our social connections, are really all that matters. It’s this realm of social connectivity that we must come to terms with in order to get along with all the other populations on the planet,’

Frank Turner At Amoeba, Wednesday September 16th 2015 Review

Meanwhile Frank Turner was talking about being jet lagged, and was profusely and euphorically explaining his songs, he seemed to be in very high spirit and was joking around… ‘The tour starts in Pittsburg, but they sent me to LA first’… ‘This song was about being an asshole to my girlfriend, and this is an apology’ he added before singing another song of his new album ‘The Opening Act of Spring’.

Listen To Deafheaven’s New Song, ‘Come Back’

‘A lot of this record is us being like, “Look, we are a metal band. We do a lot of other stuff, but we can solo; we can have some Slayer riffs in there. There was a lot of, “Hey, what if we throw some traditional thrash metal stuff in here, but just make it our own?” And I think it worked really well.’

Youth Lagoon Feels Like A Rotten Human In His New Song

‘Throughout the process of writing this album—about two years—I’ve gone on this spiritual journey to learn more about myself and my faults and all this stuff that I’ve tended ignore for a really long time. It’s so much easier to go through each day and forget the previous day or forget the hurtful things you said to someone or whatever it might be, just the shitty parts of your life. This song is addressing that. It’s really examining what it is that makes me who I am, and what parts of that are disgusting.’

Elton John Wants To Discuss Gay Rights In Russia With Putin

While speaking to BBC News, John said ‘I would like to meet [Mr Putin],’ ‘It’s probably pie in the sky… He may laugh behind my back when he shuts the door, and call me an absolute idiot, but at least I can think I have the conscience to say I tried.’ At least he is realistic! ‘Give me a break,’ said Elton John. “You are President of Russia, and you go and say stupid things like that?’ I guess he is preparing himself when he has the big meeting with the president whose anti-gay attitude is ‘isolating and prejudiced’ and ‘ridiculous’ according to John.

Not With The Band: Has The Internet Changed The Biography Game?

Brett Morgen’s ‘Montage of Heck’ received seven nominations for the Creative Arts Emmys which took place on Saturday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, I don’t know how many he actually won but this is revolting,… revolting because Morgen has tried to sell this fiction for the truth, heavily promoting a story that simply is a lie. Didn’t Buzz Osborne say ‘Montage of Heck’ was 90% bullshit?

Mac DeMarco Gets Hurt Like Everyone Else

‘People ask: ‘These are your friends, right? This is a funny thing? I’m like, ‘I’ve never met these guys. I don’t know what they sound like.’ They asked me to play guitar with them on David Letterman a couple of months ago and I said no. But I guess somewhere in between that time and now they decided that they didn’t like me actually and yeah, if they have a problem, then that’s fine. Not everyone’s going to like my music. That’s fine.’…

Queens Of The Stone Age At Teragram Ballroom, Thursday September 10th 2015, Review

They didn’t talk much, Josh was visibly touched by the loving demonstrations of the enthusiastic crowd, but he shouldn’t have, as only the most die-hard fans had probably managed to get a ticket. In any case, the time was for music and not talking, and they played the show with a formidable energy while dispatching their songs as if they were rockets sent to the moon. The band kept us on the edge of a hard rock cliff, showing us once again they are one of the greatest rock bands alive.

EMI Has A Problem With Kim Davis And Mike Huckabee’s Use Of ‘Eye Of The Tiger’

‘Many times, a record company will look the other way in a situation like this, as it serves as free publicity for their intellectual property,’ added Steiner. ‘Though, in this case, I believe that EMI does not want their song associated with someone like Kim Davis, or Mike Huckabee for that matter, and will most likely seek full damages for this incident.’

Diva At Amoeba, Tuesday September 8th 2015 Review

On stage, five women covered with pastel-colored veils were sort of entering in a yoga transcendental meditation, reciting a new age-y discourse about opening our minds and receiving a waterfall, some esoteric stuff they were taking very seriously,… like opening our feet into the earth to channel infinite love?… they were surrounded by flowers and I was wondering, when do they really start the show?

Watch This Seriously Simple Eagles of Death Metal’s Video For ‘Complexity’

Wait, they had already this audio version on Youtube showing them in a Star Trek fantasy, but this time Homme and Jesse Hughes, aka Boots Electric, are playing their SNL’s version of Sprockets with black turtlenecks and intellectual glasses, which suit Homme very well I must say. Of course the joke is that this weird Krautrock-y German parody totally clashes with the music, a not-so-complex rocker that would require much more hip action.

Not With The Band: About These Elliott Smith’s New Releases

Producer Kevin Moyer revealed to Pitchfork that the track list had ‘20 Elliott songs from the film with only around four or five having been previously released’. ‘So hopefully we can keep him and his memory alive through the movie and of course his music too with this soundtrack release,’ he said Moyer to Pitchfork. I know that the producers have the best intention, Kevin was a close friend of Elliott’s and he obviously still misses him a lot, but is this the right thing to do?

Most of their songs were at the verge of explosion before the eventual disaster was cut short, finishing into the lament of Duzsik’s vocals. Since I could not see any setlist around the stage, I am not sure what they played, very probably many songs of their new album ‘Death Magic’, like ‘Stonefist’, one of their poppiest tunes, which sounds much quieter on record, almost like an industrial track of Depeche Mode or Nine Inch Nails, but revealed itself much more ferocious in its live form. And that was the case for all the songs.

Taylor Swift’s African-Dream White Cliché

Taylor Swift released this mini movie/big production for ‘Wildest Dreams’ on Sunday, and it looks like a Karen Blixen remix with her song for soundtrack. Nothing in the song suggests Africa, but this is nevertheless where the video was shot, because Taylor probably thought she would look good in colonial outfit or Scheherazade veils in front of lions and exotic animals.
