Arcade Fire’s ‘Wake Up’ Is The Soundtrack of LA2024 Olympic Games Campaign

Los Angeles is in the course for the Olympic Games and the LA2024 campaign has already started. I am not sure I want to think about 2024, I will be 9 years older, damn, and time already flies fast enough. But things like these ones are always thought way ahead of their time. I have some memories of the Los Angeles 1984 Games, it seems like a very long time ago, since 40 years have already passed, it’s crazy, it’s half a life!

But LA wants the games back, very badly, and a new trailer for the campaign has been launched, featuring the best parts of the city of angels soundtracked by Arcade Fire’ s most famous song, ‘Wake Up’. Of course this song was great, and it had the power to uplift the crowds from all over the world, but isn’t it an old tune already? A tune of 2004 for an event that will happen in 2024? I guess it will always work on people but it is a bit of a lack of imagination from whoever is taking care of the LA Olympic games campaign.

Come on, the song has been used and re-used so many times, during hockey games, soccer games, in commercials and Super Bowls commercials, for the trailer of the 2009 movie ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ and the 2014 movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’… even U2 used it for the Vertigo Tour! We have heard it, alright, too many times.

Sure, it’s not a bad trailer, it has everything people are looking for to promote this kind of events, some inspiring music, some good looking people watching the sky, many city landscapes at sunset or sunrise, and these universal ideas of diversity, progress and innovation found in a modern metropolis, but I am not sure they are breaking new grounds here.

Plus how many bands live in Los Angeles already? I can’t give you a number but there are tons of them and they nevertheless managed to pick a Canadian band.
