Ticketmaster came through!!
I had been going crazy trying to get my hands on the presale code for no avail. Contacted my friend at WBLS-FM who said she’d try but everybody was gone till Tuesday, didn’t want to pay the $75 to get on the Apollo A+ List and figured I was screwed on what is undoubtedly the hottest show of the winter season.
So I emailed Ticketmaster to ask them, a hail Mary and they came through and so does your everloving rock nyc who DOES NOT CHARGE FOR PRESALE CODES, when we can get em.
Me? I think D’Angelo is overrated, I just am not crazy about Black Messiah while I am obsessed over Brown Sugar and Voodoo. Like Dylan, I’m a song and dance guy and as such the songs STILL HAVEN’T clicked in with me. I just can’t hear em at all and that’s the truth. I love the sound, I love the way it feels in my ear but I can’t get past the fractured structure. I keep on waiting for the damn hook to kick in, even new r&b, even the Weeknd , writes songs. Plus, consensus opinion can bug me and I don’t like the lockstep behind it. It smells of bullshit and lies.
But live, live the man can bring it, and this his first post-Black Messiah show anywhere (before a trip to Europe -if you don’t get in assume you will see him eventually, D’Angelo will be back if he doesn’t have another nervous breakdown) and for a pop music fan an absolute must see.
So, anyway, here is the Black Messiah presale code for Ticketmaster on February 7th at the Apollo. Tickets go on sale Monday at 10am.
