we better give it back, it's not ours
we better give it back, it’s not ours

– Sweetheart Contract – Magazine – Howard Devoto always seemed to be spiral scratching away from the Buzzcocks but really, when he left the band he took a lot of stuff they never got back and one of which was an experimental edge. Here it sounds like modified soul weirdness and while I am not clear what it means, Devoto sure comes through as completely dominant in his own paranoid, edgy way – A+

– Sugar – Maroon 5 – A great video lifts this song very high – A

– Uma Thurman – Fall Out Boy – That’s today sorted, a “Munsters” marathon – A

– Local Girls (Live) – Graham Parker – From back when he was a garage jukebox – B+

– Blank Space – I Prevail – Man is this ugly, so good for them for dirtying it up – B

– Lucky Number – Lene Lovitch – new wave in a song and if you are gonna be a one hit wonder… – A

– That’s Not My Name – The Ting Tings – Excellent beat not beats on the drim – B+

– Love Song – Four Years Strong – Pretty good Sara Bareilles cover – B+

– I’d Rather Be With You – Bootsy Collins – Beautiful soul song, the sort of stuff Parliament-Funkadelic don’t do, and Motown won’t – A

– Third Day Of A Seven Day Binge – Marilyn Monroe – If there are another two songs as good as the newbie , consider it a success, if there is another five songs consider it one of the best albums of the year – A
