That rhinestone cowboy is ridiculously cool. At age 76 and in the early stage of Alzheimer’s Disease he is extending his farewell tour, much to the thrill of his fans.
He has released his final album “Ghost on the Canvas” back in 2011 and tours in support of that as well as his swan song. Insiders indicate he is beginning to lose his memory.
Alzheimer’s is often called ‘the long goodbye’, with moments of clarity amongst the confusion the disease brings. It is one of the most confusing and gut wrenching afflictions I have ever encountered.
Yet, how fitting that Campbell feels well enough to continue his ‘long goodbye tour’ acknowledging his weakness yet forging ahead?
I find this stance to be inspirational if not downright finger pointing to the lesser performers who cancel a show for a hangnail. Rock on Glen, you’re the man.
Campbell is considering scheduling more shows next year after playing more than 120 dates in 2012. He is supported by his close friends and family who not only manage on the tour but perform with him. What a glorious way to head in to the sunset and what fantastic collaboration from those who know him best.
Additional dates have yet to be announced but the fact that Campbell is literally ‘carpe’ing his diem’s is an inspiration to everyone.
