Panic! at the Palahniuk

I didn’t know it at the time (because I was nine), but P!ATD’s record A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out makes numerous references to quite a few of Palahniuk’s novels. Considering I love both the band and the authour, I decided to reread some of Chuck’s books, and listen to AFYCSO again and find all of the connections I could

More Amor for Ryan Ross

It was relatively boring; there was no hook or anything that made it unique. It’s pretty catchy though, and it’s a stereotypical summer song. It doesn’t stand out to me, but it would be good to put on a playlist for a party

Music Justice Must Be Served

Hopefully, people will eventually realize that what they’re listening to is nothing more than a weak attempt at making billions of dollars, and that music is there to inspire you- not just make you want to dance.

All American Rejects "Walk Over Me" Reviewed

The composition is packed with incredible riffs and bits of musicianshipthat I didn’t know the band was capable of. It is entirely unique toanything they’ve ever done, exploring both the quick and entertainingly musically clever chorus, to a passionate, charged bridge.

The lead vocalist of The Used, Bert McCracken, is banned from crossing the Canadian border for the next ten years. McCracken says it’s because the government is not allowing him into Canada because of criminal charges from a decade ago

Saint Motel "Benny Goodman" Reviewed

The tune has a really fun, funky beat. It’s quite intriguing because it mixes in totally unique sounds and riffs and combines them with a few simplistic elements, making it holistically one of a kind and outstanding.

Here's To Summer!

Since I’m officially on holiday for summer, that means a lot of road tripping about and parties to attend. Here are the top ten songs for any fun event this summer:

Passion Pit "Take A Walk" Video Review

I was so caught up in paying attention to all the details, and I realized that the song/lyrics and video totally don’t match. The song itself is so dynamic, and the video seems to be incredibly one dimensional in comparison.

Christofer Drew Produces A Joke

I only heard snips of the lyrics but I am entirely sure that they aren’t meaningful or interesting at all. I can’t even hate it, it’s so pathetic. A weak attempt to be cool ended up a tune so horrific that it’s laughable

The Summer Set Releases "Mannequin"

can just imagine them performing this tune live and having this be the crowd pleaser. It ties the song together and makes it totally unique. The way that the guitars, bass, and drums mesh together make me smile. It feels effortless but still makes an impression.

Sex, Love and Music and Extra Credit: "Lua"

We had to react to either a heartfelt love song, or a vulgar sex ballad. It was a song of our choice, to reflect our musical tastes. Upon first hearing of the assignment, I went straight to “I Want To Know Your Plans” by Say Anything. I felt as though it was too obviously a love song, so I went with something a bit more thought provoking and realistic- Bright Eyes’ “Lua”.

William Becket "Walk The Talk" EP Review

The vibe it gives off is so chill and makes me really happy- I was in an instant good mood once I heard it. It’s one of the best feelings, and I always got it when listening to TAI…, so it’s so nice to see that Beckett can still carry that out and bring me back those feelings.

Of Monsters and Men, "Little Talks" Reviewed

It kind of makes me feel like a little kid again. It reminds me of skipping down the sidewalk and not having any cares. The beat is super fun; every aspect of it appeals to me- even her voice. The guy’s vocals balance it out, not making it too feminine, but it still feels light and airy.

Enabler, All Hail The New Band

Expecting a mellow rock hipster indie ballad, I found myself hearing a hardcore song. The intense guitar and bass totally thew me off guard, and the vocals were strong and powerful. It’s almost reminiscent of the older punk scene, which I like a lot.

Nostalgic Tunes, Lookin' Backwards

Bad Religion is always a good band to listen to when you’re in a punky mood, and this song is perfect for it. It’s a big middle finger to society and being judged, which is the epitome of teenage angst.

The Sonic Youth of Today, Not So Popular

I was pleased to not get any songs by Justin Bieber. None of these songs are on the top of the charts, so who is it exactly who determines what’s popular and number 1? It seems as though the people I associate with are still exploring the music that we were raised on, and we stray from the path.

Max Bemis Performs "Say Anything" Live and Acoustic Reviewed

For a love song, it sure isn’t mushy or cliche. I especially love the way he sings the line “I’d listen to a piercing squeal on a loop to make this real with you”; you can hear the intensity in his voice. He’s an incredible guitarist, which I find that I overlook because I typically fall in love with his vocals

The Wonder Years' "The Upsides" Reviewed

Record Store Day was a huge success. I ended up amongst a frenzy of fellow vinyl-lovers, eager to look through various 45s and new exclusive releases. I ended up selecting Bayside’s acoustic album, The Shins’ Simple Song/September LP, and The Wonder Years’ The Upsides.

MFT 4-19-12

It loses your cool quota to love one of the most hated bands in hipdom, and Wiz’s rap is kinda lame, but I love Adam’s falsetto and the band can arrange a pop song better than the average band. Much better. Grade: A-

"I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning", Revisted

I think it was just my naivety, but I was unaware that the tunes were direct allusions to Oberst’s drugging. I knew that “Lua” was definitely about self-medicating, but now with that fact in mind, and listening to the record, you can tell what he means when he mentions “these bars are filled with things that kill; by now you probably should’ve known”.

Magpie and Hel do SNL: One Direction

Here we are though, watching these guys who’s fans are up past curfew to catch a couple tunes and scream. What I wonder is can the over 16 crowd relate? Can we get older fans to appreciate the bubblegum boys? Is there any talent or even showmanship for these British-Irish blokes?

It’s so raw and real, and really emphasizes the lyrics which are beautiful. “If you’re lost and alone, or you’re sinking like a stone, carry on” is a nice message that is truly accentuated further by the clean and pure, unprocessed version

Chiodos, A Long Goodbye

The last tour was the roughest of times for us. Within the first week I tore several ligaments in my right ankle and another member broke his foot. On top of that, I heard a member wanted to leave to go to school and start a family. That was it for me.
