I went to go see the band Say Anything at the Webster Theatre. The band's been around since 2000, originally from LA. They're one of my favourite bands of all time, so I was beyond stoked to watch them perform in person for the first time.
The band came on the stage, and I was automatically engaged. They all have such an incredible presence and were so fun to watch. Opening up with "Spidersong", and older tune, the crowd immediately joined along in singing- including me. The substantially packed venue was already having a good time, and the band was just getting started.
Next playing "Burn A Miracle", a fantastic anthem and even better live, really got the crowd going even more. The flawless band punched out every single recognizable riff and note, making it one of the best live performances of a song I've ever seen. Everyone was singing along, and on stage, you could see them all beaming. The energy in the room was undeniable and made the show
They played my favourite tune by them, "Belt". It was completely flawless and I was blown away. Bemis' voice was even better than it was in the original recording, and I couldn't help but sing along. The band was really energetic as well. The guitars were so dynamic and incredible, and the drumming was insane. It was a phenomenal performance.
The band started to play the song "So Good". In the tune, Max Bemis' wife sings along. She came onto the stage and did her part, her beautiful voice filling the room. Bemis had a huge grin on his face, and he looked at her with such affection. It was so sweet to watch and was really captivating. They both had such passion in their voices, making it very emotional and sincere.
"Alive With The Glory of Love" was their last song before their encore. This is pretty much one of the coolest and best songs of all time. Only Say Anything could truly pull off a love song about the Holocaust. The lyrics are mind-blowing and the music is gorgeous. To top it all off, it was even better live. Nearly every person was shouting the words, smiling. I consider the tune to be one of SA's very first full-out anthems, and having the vision of being there to sing along actually happened. I left the room ecstatic.
It was incredible to see a band that I idolize so much live for the very first time. Their set was completely flawless, making my opinion of them being fantastic that much stronger. If Say Anything comes to your area, do not miss them.
