Amidst the halls of my school, I'd typically hear kids singing Justin Bieber and other popular songs from the radio. The latest hit is "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen. Since I'd only heard the renditions of my fellow classmates, especially a rather dramatic and passionate version by our own Layna. I decided to actually hear the original version.
Carly Rae has no vocal talent whatsoever. It's so obviously edited that it hurts to listen to; I can't believe that people can possibly think that's her real singing. It's too high and there are a few glitches in which you can tell that it's definitely not her natural voice. The beat in the background is stereotypical and boring- it has no real drive and is so flat and one dimensional that it really just bothers me.
I watched the music video, which I thought was at least a bit more entertaining than the tune. The story line is cliche, a girl falling in love with a boy and trying to get him to notice her. However, the ending was a twist when the boy she was trying to pick up was gay the whole time. That was an interesting turn of events, making the video and song a bit less predictable and lame.
Regardless, it's just another bubblegum pop song that is a fad now, but will be forgotten in a matter of months. Let's all hope the next time I pass Layna in the hall she has a new song to belt out!
