Here are the elements of rock and roll I hate with burning passion.
1- Guitar solo's. Enough ego box twang wang and I could cause a riot.
2- Bad falsetto. A knee to the nads could help with that
3. Repetition. ENOUGH already!! STOP!
4. False voice. You know, that nasal thing that isn't a real singing voice
5. Blue Riffs. I got enough blues without taking on someone elses
Yup, all of these elements star in Jack White's new solo LP 'Blunderbuss'. So then, I ask why the heck is it the best album I have heard in years? I cannot stop listening to it- nor promoting it. "Hi I'd like a small salad, a mineral water and OH have you heard the new Jack White??!"
I have apparently lost myself in Whites work. Ok, well, sometime my shallow girl self can love something based on appearance.. well Jack is no longer a hottie so that's not it. AND I can honestly say this is my favorite album in at least two years.
By all recipe I should hate this crap. Hand clapping? Girl group back up vocals? yuck. Keyboard tripping solo's? Jesus in any other forum I would be screaming for mercy. Instead I am screaming for more.
I want to see White live, not streaming, but live and I want to shove people out of the way to see the performance. I don't do that often. An album hasn't motivated me since I cant recall when. Maybe Raditude by Weezers but that was more for sentimental reasons than actual sound. Every Man In America by Blue October? Nope it was ok but it was tosser compared to this.
Jack White didn't need Meg. Jack White needed a few years to get the creepiness under control and now..he owns it. Fantastic album all the way through, and everything I hate in one place.
