This year at WarpedTour, they are doing an acoustic "basement" stage, where lead singers can go and perform solo, or bands can do acoustic sets. I am BEYOND stoked for Anthony Raneri's solo there, but I heard that Into It. Over It. was partaking as well, and came across a YouTube video of none other than Evan Weiss doing the song "Proper" acoustic and raw. I fell in love.
The original version of the tune has a really intense feel and I feel some of the emotion is lost in translation with so much noise inbetween the listener and Weiss' voice. It's catchy and angsty and rockin' in its' traditional setting and I love it because pop punk just gives you that kind of thump in your chest and smile on your face and need to move around. It's a brilliant song, and is one of Into It. Over It.'s best.
However, the acoustic, live version offers so much more. You can feel the true passion and it’s gorgeous. Weiss has a quality to his voice that almost takes the edge off of any punk song he could ever cover, and adds an element of softness that doesn’t take away from the song, but makes it unique. This version is far superior simply because it’s so stripped down and simple that it feels more real.
I am so beyond excitedfor the acoustic basement stage at Warped this year, and even moreso after watching this performance. The bar is set pretty high by Weiss, and I can’t wait to see more from Into It. Over It.
