The All Star Games sure starts late, I was looking for it at 825pm and it still hadn’t started. As Phil Mushnick noted when the Women’s Football Team won the World Cup, if you start the damn game early enough you will get huge ratings. Meanwhile back at the All STar Game, which the American League won 6 – 3, the Mets young pitcher Jason deGrom did something never done before, he struck out the side.

Historic agreement reached today in the US and Iran today which lifts sanctions on Iran and in return halts Iran’s quest for nuclear weapons. The big question mark is the old “trust but verify” one, and the answer seems a little iffy as access at will to any site would not be necessarily given or could be delayed. I guess we will understand more about that later but it sure doesn’t sound ideal. Still, the world is a safer place today.

The 4 Knots Festival moved to the much larger larger Pier 84 this year and on a gorgeous afternoon with an astounding line-up art rock guitar bands, the larger area made it much easier to enjoy after overcrowding was a problem last year. A spectacular even, a ten minute walk from Time Square, it was a quintessential New York even. Standout? Stephen Malkmus was great and Twin Peaks were a revelation. Full review to follow.

A busy day for computer malfunctions, first the NYSE closes for hours, then American Airline closes for hours and then the Wall Street Journal goes down. Of course, this is all a coincidence and why not? till, it is one of those you can imagine the Terminator coming to us back from the future to fix… maybe this is how the world ends, right? Not with a bang but with a computer glitch.

A female English teacher got 22 years in prison for having sex with three 17 year old boys and aborting a pregnancy with one of them. 22 years? Murderers don’t get that, violent rapists don’t get, Ponzi schemers don’t get that. Jennifer Fichter? She gets that. Incidentally, if any of these guys happened to kill someone, suddenly they would be adults in the eyes of the court. This is fear of female sexuality

Celebration time, at 240 years of age the US is in the middle of their difficult 20s and who knows where it all ends. ends? Perhaps the country finds in feet and becomes a superpower Europe, or perhaps it divides itself back up? Whatever the answer is, there is no greater countr. Who else has invented jazz AND rock and roll (and the teenager).

there must be some reason there is nothing to do today, with the possible exception of the Soft Parade, the great Doors cover band, at BB Kings. Meanwhile, the big rumor of the moment is Pearl Jam are performing at this year’s “Global Citizen’s Festival” on September 26th. This will be my third year, so far I’ve seen (among others) Stevie Wonder and No Doubt each perform great sets. Finally, P-Funk on Governors Island.

Believing the confederate flag should be taken down from Government buildings is not the same as approving TV Land canceling The Duke Of Hazards… This is the problem with attempting to do the right thing, censorship, in this case completely ridiculous censorship, is the next step… I don’t know of the TV show being a gateway to racism anywhere at anytime TVL is the problem not the solution

Some weeks are bigger than others and some are just ridiculous in their greatness. This is one of the biggest weeks for pop records in recent history: Miguel, Vince Staples, Neil Young, The Internet, Bilal and Joy Williams all had potential albums of the week. And I can’t listen to them fast enough.

Murder isn’t baseball, Denis Hamill claimed in the New York Daily News today, it isn’t a staticians game. Essentially telling us all to sit down and stop fretting. Perhaps, but homeless men with machetes attacking defenseless women in Bryant Park is rife with symbolism. And if murder was baseball, New York City has transitioned from the 2000 Yankees to the 2000 Mets, and that is far enough or we will be the 2014 Yankees before we know it.

The Supreme Court upheld the right to gay marriage in the US. Certainly, during Gay Pride week, I don’t know who would disagree that this is a great thing that should have never been an issue. Congratulations (or maybe I mean sympathy) to all homosexuals now legally ale to do what they did anyway. On a personal level, what I liked most about homosexuality was the indiscriminate sex men had before AIDS destroyed the fun. Just the entire constant seeing all over the places with tens, dozens of partners. Of course, it wasn’t marriage that killed it, but I am sure marriage will be the straw that leaves those days of glorious promiscuity to just a distant memory

If “Summer Of ’42” happened in the “Summer Of ’15”, the war widow would be in jail right now because Oscy and Benjie (“I’m a dangerous man, I truly am” ) secretly filmed her and Hermie and posted it online and somebody (everybody) snitched to the cops -who took a break from frisking black male teenagers for loitering in their backyard, to bust her. We live in a sharp elbowed, intrusive, ill mannered, nosey, aggressive, and pointedly ignorant of human nature, age.

I bet in some ways the Yankees wish A-Rod had crashed and burned this year, instead of just getting his 3,000 hit with a home run in a winning effort last night. I am so not a moralist on this stuff, I don’t see why he shouldn’t get paid his millions, if only for coming back from a horrendous couple of years and still being able to play the game at a ridiculously high standard.

I loathed the album but I can’t help feeling that this will be a really great show, it will be a magic evening of American Standards by a pro and a protégée. Meanwhile, Active Child’s new album is very good: sort of ambient indie pop and he is performing at MHOW (sold out but it should be easy enough to buy one)
