Politics: The Patriot Act “allows for the authorization of indefinite detentions of immigrants; the permission given law enforcement officers to search a home or business without the owner’s or the occupant’s consent or knowledge; the expanded use of National Security Letters, which allows the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to search telephone, e-mail, and financial records without a court order; and the expanded access of law enforcement agencies to business records, including library and financial records.” Or simpler: it lets the government spy on you. It is due to expire or be extended on Sunday.
Television: Time/Warner have a neat little Catch 22. You can upgrade your service whenever you want but as long as you have an account you can never downgrade it. So you can delete the service whenever you like and that will allow you to downgrade it. SIX MONTHS AFTER YOU CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT. “That’s some catch you got there.” “The best there is.”
