News: “That’s how bad it is. … The level of displacement would be like nothing we’ve ever seen before. It would be devastating to working people in this city, and it would be the beginning of the end of New York City as we have known it as a place for everyone.” That’s De Blasio discussing the end of rent regulation, the law expires on Monday. If it should expire, landlords can jack up rates as high as they want which means a million New Yorkers could easily be thrown out of their apartments and New York will become a rich man’s city. The end of 50 years of gentrification will have reached its natural conclusion and de Blasio, Cuomo and every member of the New York ruling body will find themselves without a job. Will it happen? I would be shocked, for sure. But the corrupt, guilty, lazy, politicians should be fired if only for terrifying us all.
Movies: Alyson Camus’s story about Courtney Love having her lawyers send cease and desist to move houses showing the Kurt was murdered “Soaked In Bleach” has gotten a lot of traction. I bought it off Vimeo yesterday and will post my views when I get to t. Till then, read Camus’s story here.
Live: Viet Cong have sold out MHOW for today but if ever a band seemed to have reached its moment, Viet Cong have. Graham Parker, back with the Rumour, reached his moment well over 30 years ago. Perhaps he will reach it again?
Recorded: After spending the last week listening to A$AP Rocky, I am back to Azealia Banks, who improves with every spin. Banks is the rapper of the year but I am a reactionary who never caught on to Kendrick as well as you did. Even if “The Blacker The Berry” is one of our great song, that doesn’t make it better then “Miss Armor”.
Sports: The US Women’s Soccer team are now 2 – 0 – 1 after playing Sweden to a draw. The US is in first place of Group D, as they try to qualify to play in the world cup.
