In some ways, Shell Shag are a folkie indie DIY iteration of Yo La Tengo, an exciting exploration of love and monogamy, strength through love and friendship. A clear eyed view of love and how love can bring you through to the other side.

It really feels like their older stuff, and I love it. The build up to “I’m fillin’ your prescriptions, the orange bottles stare me down,” is flawless and so wonderfully composed, the vocals becoming full and transitioning right into the chorus, full of potential for the classic pop-punk show gang vocals and moshing
they were very loud, filling the Echo with a monster sound of distortion pedals, raucous vocals, hard rocking riffs bathing in a psychedelic ambiance and a few roaring screams and whistle blows that had the most awesome retro effect

Demi is back after the toweringly crappy “Skyscraper”, she kisses and makes upwith a halfway decent and sure it is product but rather good dance product than overcooked emotional vacuums. I’ve always liked demi, she plays her role as the all too human bff with panache. So i am happy to like a song by her as well.
Under normal circumstances I would be uniformly baffled by the success of Paramore, but this isn’t that. This is their best album to date and a complete triumph for Hayley. She deserves.

Chi Chi Cheng – The Deftones first bassist, Chi Chi played with them from beginning and on their first five albums, including their breakthrough 2000’s White Pony. The loud/soft metal grunge coming of age party happened here, moving metal past both. In 2008, Cheng was in a car crash and never fully recovered. He was 42.

This could be a year defining week. But best of all. An Art Brut greatest hits, one of my fave bands, the UK rockers are ready for prime time and this might do it.

Being a big fan of acoustic and stripped down music (Bon Iver, Oberst, flatsound), I think that this is the greatest thing B&C has ever released. Two guitars and three guys have never sounded so perfect. Something about the vocals and the way they build is just so beautiful.
