Look, we all know James Dolan is an insolent asshole daddy's boy who has never done an honest days work in his life, much like Donald Trump come to think about it, and is singlehandedly responsible for destroying two great New York franchises, the Knicks and the Rangers, thru his hubristic self-centered smug stupidity he gives money a bad name. Hell, there is a whole generation who think the Knicks are losers.
What has that to do with anything?
Well, nothing really but I've wanted to write it for years and it is his Beacon Theater I am patiently waiting outside of for 45 minutes while the ridiculous pathetic security measures at Diana Krall's insures that your 75 year old Grandma is not bringing a bomb inside with her.
Eh?
As Helen Bach put it, not inaccurately, "Why beef up security AFTER an attack?"
You've got me.
Do the fools who are meant to protect us but, of course, can't protect us, really really think, the ridiculous irritant disrespectful keeping people lined up like chattel actually helps any one, saves anything, does anything at all. From the amorphous borders to the minimum wage employees at Newark who routinely let people with guns walk onto airlines while they touch up Grandpa's walkers, we are not safe.
Or let me rephrase, we are safe as we ever can be.
To be safer would be to give up too much personal freedom, it isn't worth it, we will have to take our chances.
Back to insulting that pudgy dodgy no nothing bully James Dolan. At the Beacon, this is what they did:
1. Kept us in long long lines…
2. To check us with metal detectors?
3. Let Krall go on stage while people were still outside trying to get in.
4. AND THEN WOULDN'T LET US IN BECAUSE SHE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A SONG!!!!
I thought security was gonna have a riot on their hand, people were so angry.
Who but the pudgy fat head would misjudge security on such a ridiculous level?
Look: if there is gonna be a race, and somebody wants to stick a bomb in and blow us up in a public area, the chances of us getting blown to bits is excellent, and there isn't enough vigilance to really save us. They only have to get it right once.
9-11's greatest success was NOT killing 2000 people in the World Trade Center, it was the incredible inconvenience of fool security at airports throwing away people's toothpaste. It's a national embarrassment. If some teenage monster leaves a bomb on a crowded street, how are you gonna stop him? for a minute and explodes it five minutes later. How vigilant can you be?
There is no promises. As the Band once put it: you could wake up in the morning dead. Remember: he who gives up freedom for security will soon discover he has neither. It is the Government's job to protect us but not at the cost of constant surveillance. Death is preferable.
