One of the coolest films of all time is 200 “School of Rock”. The idea alone was fabulous. A failed rocker pretends to be a substitute teacher and uses his class to create a band. He then takes those kids to a battle of the bands contest. This loser is fabulously portrayed by Jack Black. Suffering from a case of “stickittothemandiosis” as well as just plain ‘sticking it to the man’, became the catch phrase for anyone who saw the film.
A very young Miranda Cosgrove is outstanding as the bitchy little prep school over achiever. Simply wonderful and now- lets fuck up that entire thing shall we?
Andrew Lloyd Webber has purchased the rights to make it a theatrical production. For The Lords sake why (get the pun there? Weber is a Lord) Enough already with the changing medias- Taking such an underdog and making it a footlights production is just lame.
May I remind you of the adaptation of Footloose? WHY? Some things are best left in their rogue form. Will Weber pen songs for it? That’s still up in the air The film featured songs from AC/DC, Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Black Keys, The Who and Jack Black. Its fine just as that- a big production number is over kill. “A Long Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock and Roll”, is the epic tune, leave it as such.
Lord Lloyd Webber said he would like to continue writing a variety of musicals. "I don't write because I think I've got to write another musical. I just enjoy doing it," he added. The composer also revealed his next production will be called Stephen Ward and is based on the so-called Profumo Affair – a 1963 British political scandal. "I will go from Stephen Ward which is going to be really a sort of a chamber musical to a musical about kids playing the guitar," he said.
Talk about ‘the man’. Seriously, this is a great example of what not to do. Though, if you have not seen the film I suggest you Netflix that sucker right away. Sara Silverman is another awesome character and Joan Cusack was the best school principal ever (especially drunk).
Please Lord Weber- don’t do it.
