The funkiest sax player of all time, living legend James Brown foil and self made icon of all things that move, the great Maceo Parker, will be be playing a week long residency at the Blue Note. I will be there to get down and get funk on Tuesday. I haven't seen him on stage in years, since a great set at AVery Fisher Hall in the 1990s, and if that is anything to go by, this will be one long skronk!
Monday – Generationals – Bowery Ballroom – The most exciting political band in the world support the underdogs and rock your brains out your ears again.
Wednesday – Paul Williams – Cafe Carlyle – The lovers, the dreamers and me will be there for the 1970s great pop song writer.
Thursday – Piece The Veil And All Time Low – Best Buy – This is as good as rock and roll gets in 2013, last years Collide With the Sky was eccentric and great and All Time Low are a high octave melodic buzz.
Friday – Pusha T and Fabolous – BB Kings – Pusha T just dropped a terrific song "Numbers On The Boards" and Fabolous is never less than great on album after album year after year.
Saturday – Billy Bragg – The Town Hall – A sorta folkie Generationals
Sunday – Rihanna – Prudential – Last time I saw Rihanna on stage was 2010 and I wrote "It is the summer movie of summer tours: all bangs and blasts and forgotten before you leave the Garden". But that was three years ago and a lot has happened since then.
