Three girls sing together with a high pitched siren out and the band enters like an indie punk outfit and exists like Sonic Youth. Shame this didn’t come awcross on stage. Grade: B+

It would be easy to get cynical with this outpouring of goodness spread on the audience by a band that dresses up like a gospel choir and wants to us to believe they all travel in a escaped-from-the-60s flower-power van. Haven’t we passed this since the cynical and grungy 90s?
The world today is so focused on the latest and greatest trend; this is just magnified in my generation by the changing times and the already limited attention span of the average teenager.
This band capture feelings in a net. Easily relatable and in proper form La Dispute oozes emotion in a darker sense. Dark but not depressing. The introverted art form of expressing thoughts with power and conviction and just a tiny bit of fear.
In our own lives, we are all John Lennon, and other people play the other three Beatles. In every romance, one is John and the other is Paul. In John’s life itself, he was John and Yoko was Paul. In Katy Perry’s marriage, she was John and Russel Brand was Paul.
I’ve been prevaricating between MDNA being borderline and very good. The remixes might throw me onto the very good side forever. Try the Facebook link, the album is $3.50 and you could find out before I do,
The deep soothing emotionalism is a variant on ambience, it lulls, but awakens at the same time. The Greek master plays piano, synth… i guess if it has a keyboard the man can play it.
do we really need to boost the sales of fast food restaurants in a country where obesity has never been so high? These fast food chains are the worst of the worst, they are terrible at every single level, at the health and ecological levels, and should totally disappear (I know!). Each bite of this thing is a step ahead on the path of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes
Fresh on the heels of this tragedy is the release of the trailer for the upcoming film “Sparkle” Sparkle is the story of three sisters who start a group and deal with the fame and drugs. It is based on the story of The Supremes. How sad.
Over here at rock nyc, we have an seasonal ritual whereby we sneer at the longwinded blowhards at pitchfork.com, and then add insult to injury by reposting their noteworthy releases.
Ultravox was an innovative moody and wonderfully decade appropriate band in the early 80’s, they have a new album due out that will try to replicate that vibe. Lets see how it flies in 2012. I’m hopeful!
But James is optimistic about the possible ‘reunion’, even declaring: ‘Yeah, hopefully, naturally. I don’t know, you’d have to wait and see. The will of God, nature’s support, I guess. So yeah, maybe.’
Is Madonna’s voice weak? Yeah, I guess, but it works good enough within the songs. Are the lyrics clumsy? Sure. Who thought being a multi-millionaire divorcee would be such a bore. Does it sink in the middle? Yes, it sinks in the middle.
The MLB Fan Cave is located in the former Tower Records Greenwich Village. Located at 692 Broadway, this mega space will be the scene of some pretty interesting concerts in celebration of the start of the 2012 Major League Baseball season
From its wall of sound drums, to its arch, troubled vocal, to its rewritten verse (“each morning I lie wake and find sunlight softly shining on her hair, And then I realize I’m wrong in thinking that she doesn’t really care…”), the single greatest Beach Boys cover ever.
I’ve never really enjoyed The Summer Set live as much as recorded, but it doesn’t mean that I still don’t like them. However this new tune definitely is tailored to Dales’ voice way more.
Minaj must be taken in moderation, If you listen to her too often you will go insane and if you are a white middle class adult you will simply snap and kill someone and we cant have that.
2. Odd Future at The Hammerstein on March 20th – Release part for Volum 2 became a two year retrospective and defined Act II in the continuing story of the Worlds Greatest Hip Hop posse.
Fiona Apple has just revealed on her Facebook page, the tracklist of her upcoming album, as well as the cover art, which is a little bit on the weird side
It’s sick and it’s fun, it’s meaningless and it’s terrifying, but if you are used to Lynch’s phantasmagoric cinematic universe, nothing there should really surprise you
Helen Bach watched Rev. Green preach once in Memphis. here is her review: “My friend chipped her tooth”. Yup, that’s all she’s got.
“Jackson filters the material through his own musical imagination while exploring an assortment of unexpected grooves and textures. The resulting album is a seamless fusion of sounds and styles”
So Keith Moon, the greatest rock and roll drummer of all time, was a very funny guy. I was good friends with this man who was a bell boy (bell man!) at the Excelsior Hotel in Manchester, and he crowned Moon the greatest rock and roll star of em all. And he would know. He claimed Moon was an uproariously funny guy
it is a fabolous room, it is the anti-T5: the gigs are in the round and so every single seat is killer. This year is pretty good as well (though not quite as good as long year). Oh, and notice Micky’s first area performance subsequent to Davy Jones death.
Florence’s voice is totally fitting the song – I mean she has some vocal chords, but I was not seen her in the country department and was totally wrong! Whereas she effortlessly pushes the high notes, without June Carter’s raucous tone and taking some liberties with the original, Homme’s voice, although less spectacular, is complementing her quite nicely
The magazine has also opened up conversations on otherwise hush-hush topics. For the 11th year the magazine will team up with Everyman, to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancers.
It’s an odd mish mosh and not quite the same as the original: it is more like a roll call of eh? But why? Except… notice his three daughters will be on the cover and you see what is triggering all of these feelings.
Because dead or alive? I’m gonna do my damndest to get a tix to see the Scissor Sisters at Bowery Ballroom. I have never seen them live, and tthey are a great, undeniable, top of the pops, disco bands
Costello wraps his lips round every single word of Jagger’s devastating put down, managing to sneer and find extra venor venom on lines like “out of here without a doubt”. Devastating benius. Grade: A+
This song is lovely. I have to point out that vocally they do hit the Kings of Leon spectrum at points. This is your familiar happy bar band sound with a dab of beanie chic. How is that for a descriptive? See bands like this cannot stand out alone until they catch a massive break
Growing up in France, I have absolutely no shame to say that what I remember about French music sucked big time! You are going to say you know a few French artists who don’t suck, but every time I talk about this with an American native, Serge Gainsbourg’s name comes up, but beside him, there is most of the time nobody else
1. The OF Tapes Vol 2 – If this is a long way from perfect, it is still the most important hip hop album since Goblin.
The solider who is hired will travel with the band from July, 14 through September 25, 2012, according to MSNBC. You dont have to have a carpentry background, but duties will include putting together stage sets, running effects during show and tear down. You know.. being a roadie.
Just listen, it’s a very catchy tune, which may remind you a little Bright Eyes – but I bet Iman is going to totally contradict me on this one!
Ivy Dye is currently recording a debut EP, which should be released this summer
2. Some Nights – fun. – A true original, it’s like they are covering a cover of a Glee cover and then throwing it away at starting from scratch. Or do I mean Smash?
I can see this being offered from a band that didn’t just come off an extended hiatus. We had ‘Dirty Little Secret’ and “Gives You Hell’. That’s it and a lead singer with a pretty boy face
“Unplugged” took our favorite bands and literally unplugged them, putting them in the round with no enhancement. Acoustic performances by those we never thought we would hear in such raw form. I would have to say Nirvana and Pearl Jams episodes are the most remembered to me.
Poor Kate! I sympathize, I understand being sick about a song, but it certainly does not help it was the worst song in the world! Honestly, would she say this if it was a song she likes/liked? Can you be that disgusted about a song you enjoy in the first place?
Could it be a new Dirty Projectors song? Look and listen, because here it is!
Kids In The Street – The All American Rehects – Not much, but not much with a melody and a back beat. the lyrics are nowhere, but on songs like single “Beekeeper’s Daughter”, what they lose in coherence they make up for in Beatle references. Grade: B+
Nialli Horan said: “The craziest thing was supporting US boyband Big Time Rush – all the fans were wearing our T-shirts and holding One Direction banners, too.”
The Costello, though a live album, is stupendous. Everything you hoped for. I can’t find the Laura Marling but it’s out there somewhere. Norful is old fashioned Gospel in a year of new fashioned Gospel.
In a tech obsessed time, we love machines with the same fervor we live loving things. This is a sleek zooming dance machine, a pure genius of throbbing beats manufactured with a wiley synth hook going high and higher and a jolt ending. Grade: B+
Saturday Night Fever was released in late 1977 but its musical height was already passing. In 1978 Chic released “Le Freak” and gave birth to the synergy that would create New Wave. Chic set the stage for every pop star on the charts today,, Trammps are the template for House and even dubstep
Saxman Geoff Blythe (whose resume is staggering and includes working with Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe. As well as being a founding member of Dexys Midnight Runners) and his merry men of GI Blythe have recorded a new LP called “Lost In Space”. A brass fused frolic that is aggressive and melodic and incredibly unique.
The OC quartet played an in-store at Origami Vinyl on Saturday night and did totally repeat their dynamic performance, up in the store loft, which doesn’t allow any safe stage diving, but the spirit was there, as their music is definitively mosh-pit-fun-crowd-surfing material.
It’s so raw and real, and really emphasizes the lyrics which are beautiful. “If you’re lost and alone, or you’re sinking like a stone, carry on” is a nice message that is truly accentuated further by the clean and pure, unprocessed version
an elegant solution to question of money and design. It was a beautiful thing, with close circuit screens on the walls and at the edge of the stage, gorgeous light shows, and by some wizardry sleight of hand, more depth than the Black Keys got out of MSG.
The hype never went down with a series of concerts recently announced in NYC and LA, and probably already sold out. And she sure knows how to keep the buzz going on as she was recently caught up in a hotel elevator with Marilyn Manson, while going to his room
Economically, it sure is a very good thing for Indio, and it is not a surprise the mayor is all excited about the news! The festival is growing to more gigantic proportions each year, and they are expecting 90,000 people per day for six complete days this year.
