As Helen mentioned it yesterday, MTV unplugged will be back with Florence and the Machine on April 8, and a recording of her duet with Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme singing the classic tune 'Jackson' was posted on YouTube.
Joachim Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon may have done a great job when they recorded their duet for the biopic ‘Walk the Line’, but this new one is superb. Florence’s voice is totally fitting the song – I mean she has some vocal chords, but I was not seen her in the country department and was totally wrong! Whereas she effortlessly pushes the high notes, without June Carter's raucous tone and taking some liberties with the original, Homme’s voice, although less spectacular, is complementing her quite nicely.
And who doesn’t like a Johnny Cash song? I mean it is originally a Jerry Leiber and Billy Edd Wheeler’s song, but everyone knows it as a Cash & Carter song, and the strange thing is that everybody likes it for some reason! Flo and Josh also did a cover of another big classic, Otis Redding’s ‘Try a Little Tenderness’, which should also be interesting to listen to, and her whole performance will be released on CD/DVD and digital download on April 10.
