The Flaming Lips and The Blood of Friends

‘I don’t have everybody’s blood just yet, but I collected quite a few vials of blood and it’s actually sitting in my refrigerator as we speak. I’m going to try to take that same concept and put little bits of everybody’s blood in the middle of this record.

Helen Love "Tommy Gun" Reviewed

First off, its intro from Joey Ramone was haunting. I mean literally stopped me cold in my tracks. I suppose Joey was a fan as well. Two cool guys suggesting a tune. You’d think I’d love it.

The Costello live is a biggie, I saw the concert and it was his best in years, Loudon is big, I am seeing him at the Town Hall around this time. Ceu? It’s been a couple of years and I adored her last album. Neon Trees are back! Isn’t it a little early for a new Train? Please say so…

My big song of the album is off my big album of the moment. After years of being less than thrilled by Earle, he has released an album that puts him right back at the top of his craft and a song that can move you to tears. Grade: A+

The D.A. “We Hungry”, Reviewed

exhibits the best parts of The D.A.’s sound. The melody is displayed throughout the song by an interesting mix of bass, synth, and guitar with the usual backdrop of percussion. In the beginning of the song, the pop synth and indie bass mixture seems to set the tone of the song. That is, it did until a surprisingly raw vocal part hits you.

I’d heard of fun. before, but I just hadn’t taken the time to give them a listen. I was intrigued ever since I heard the single that they did with Panic! At The Disco titled “C’mon”. I decided to check out their album Some Nights.

Am I That Lonely Tonight? – Justin Townes Earle – Not sure about the rest of the album, but this is one of his great ones: a deep searing slice of melancholy and loss in a closed off car miles from nyc. Grade: A

The Only Place – Best Coast – The lyric so simple it is addled and the melody so sweet you are humming it before you heard it. Zevon is rolling over in his grave. Grade: A-

Chiodos, A Long Goodbye

The last tour was the roughest of times for us. Within the first week I tore several ligaments in my right ankle and another member broke his foot. On top of that, I heard a member wanted to leave to go to school and start a family. That was it for me.

The Kinks Contribute To Record Store Day

Record Store Day is a cool hipster idea that simply is too hip. I’m sure those that participate are die hard audiophiles and the rest just use them as decoration and wait for the digital download of the vinyl. It is good though, to support your local shop (if you still have one).

Watered down Bull because it is at service to something bigger than itself: THE MEN IN BLACK FRANCHISE. Where, from its pricey sample to its subdued laugh, Mr. 305 appears to phone it in. Actually, he is doing something tougher. He is playing to another persons audience. Grade: A-

M. Ward Is Streaming At My House

It is released on April 10th and streaming on NPR as we speak and, yeah, it is kinda draggy. The writer at NPR called it music for transistor radios and exactly. Like his song “One Life Away”, everything seems a little old out of time, out of synch and somewhere out their in the distaance.

Cover Art Similarities

don’t know where this Elliott Smith’s picture was taken but I know it is French photographer Renaud Monfourny’s work, and there are a few other ones in color, taken on these same stairs.
