Pink Eye tweeted the following about Katy Perry's video for "Part Of Me":
"Seeing Katy Perry as a soldier in 'Part of Me' really makes me think that we need to start a war so she can go die."
Then added:
"Yes I'm aware my last tweet was kinda dumb but so is glamorizing war to sell records to idiots. Katy Perry Still Sucks"
OK, let's start with the obvious: The US is at war and "Part Of Me" is a truly lousy song and deserves all the indifference that comes it way. But as for romanticizing war… perhaps Abraham missed my WWI post a coupla months ago.
So let me spell it out.
War has settled every single political argument since 2500 BC
Men are expendable. And as long as only one man is needed to impregnate 100 women, men will be in less demand then women. What to do with all these surplus bodies, what to do… hey, why don't we get them dead? That's what war is. Anybody who isn't gonna grasp that fundamental, might have problems but it is not with Katy Perry.
It is asinine to complain about war, or indeed violence at all, being romanticized. The succumbing to propaganda by week minds does not need entertainment to reinforce it. It reinforces itself.
Remember that old 60s joke: "Join the Army, go to exotic countries, and kill people". What is news about this? Anybody who is joining the army the nail Katy Perry or even be Katy Perry are in for a nasty, nasty surprise. In the mid1980s I had a very good friend at a telemarketing company I slaved for and we argued long and hard bout his joining the army. Which he eventually did. I lost track of him after that. BUT what I tried to explain to him was that joining the army because it will be an adventure is like becoming a hooker because you like sex. The ads he was watching were not the real story. The bottom line remains the bottom line: somebody will say die and you will, indeed die.
Having said ALL THAT, what do I care? In the grand scheme of things, Katy Perry couldn't convince any average intelligent human being to buy hairspray, she certainly couldn't convince ANYBODY AT ALL to join the army. It's like blaming violence on Tom And Jerry cartoons. But say it did, so what? EVERYBODY DIES -that's your odds of getting out of here alive: 0.00000. SO since everybody is going to die and some are going to die young and randomly and NECESSARILY SO to weed out the species, and TO PROTECT ME, let them die. Essentially, I feel the same way about war as I do about drugs; if you wanna die, as long as I don't know and love you, go ahead and die.
