Modern-retro psychedelic rockers Ty Segall and White Fence have made a record together? Yes they did, a logical collaboration between two Californian Indie garage-rock bands. I saw both of them live, separately, and Ty Segall was a real fury on stage, a mind-blowing experience with surf guitars generating a stage diving at each power chord, whilst White Fence’s frontman Tim Presley and his band had that Syd-Barrett-Kinks aura.
Their collaboration album is called ‘Hair’, and the new single ‘I am Not a Game’ has surfaced a few days ago. It is bouncy and happy, with a retro, playful-meandering organ during the intro, almost too light to catch, then the tune takes off with old-school flower-power choruses and fast raging guitars culminating in a fuzzy and loud affair. A little curious at first, the whole thing is a lot of fun, super catchy, and carrying a certain nostalgia, but it sure works at moving your body. Who said that rock’ n’ roll was dead?
The LP ‘Hair’ is due on April 24 via Drag City, and here is the tracklist:
01. Time
02. I Am Not a Game
03. Easy Ryder
04. The Black Glove/Rag
