The drums are dusty and the desert is damn hot, but the five band members of Outernational do not seem to care since they restlessly move in their new video for their riotous multi-international-inspired number ‘The Beginning is Here’ off their recent release ‘Todos Somos Ilegales: We Are All Illegal’s.
The rocking song starts with a throbbing accordion, a lot of clapping-foot tapping, then these fierce trumpets and Miles Solay are announcing the revolt, with some mad dancing over Cumbia-inspired keys and in-your-face vocals: ‘The songs I sing, they can cast a spell/I don't know no borders and I know them well/These rebels are microphones’
The video, directed by Jessica Habie, has a perfect setting for the subject of the song, as it seems to have been filmed just at the Texas/Mexico border!
Also be aware that Outernational is still on tour, and I hope I’ll be able to catch them on May Day (totally appropriate for them!) at the Echo in Los Angeles:
