Lady GaGa Closes The Simpsons
There is nothing worse than Gaga’s speaking voice. That old sleepy stoner drawl that literally makes me want to smack her off a chair. Speaking from the back of the throat slowly isn’t sexy or hip its fake and stupid

If you go back to the history of the project, it becomes really weird, as Andre 3000 was said to have been enrolled mid 2011, then it was reported that Experience Hendrix had put a stop on it in July 2011, then this past week, we got the news they were about to start filming
It’s a mixed bunch, most of em are terrible. Chris Evans was pretty good in his movie, but here Captain America is an irritating square. The Hulk (Mark Rufaflo) is worse, for some reason they decide Hulk can control his anger and fight as part of a team.. . when did that happen? Hawkeye is blander than blander, the Black Widow is losing her looks and Thoor looks like a male stripper.
Oh look at me, I am so cool and edgy, I am embracing black people’s music, I am so in touch with all ethnic groups! Yeah sure, except that the song has nothing to do with being in touch. In the video, you can see him surrounded with black voters, and reaching out disadvantaged people who are probably only earning the minimum wage
Leaks are planned by the way, there isn’t some covert operation of guys in ski caps stealing mp3 files and putting them on Youtube. Nope, they’re calculated publicity stunts that you fall for every time. It makes you feel as if you’re one step ahead of ‘the man’, but you aren’t.
Circle, Square, Triangle – Test Icicles – Blood Orange’s first band were an influential indie dance band from England and from (gasp!) 2006. Seven years later half the indie bands on Earth sound exactly like this: Fire Engines meets LCD – Grade: A
Back when the Beach Boys 50h Anniversary tour was just a rumor, Brian Wilson said that now his brothers Dennis and Carl were dead, he had no interest in playing with the rest of the band. But the money was so big he’d probably have no choice. Well, here is the Brian had no choice tour.
‘I think there are different kinds of arts, art can be different things. I think people should be engaged and involved in politics, it’s a bad rap that people think politics are just elections, bourgeois policy and laws, but politics is the life of society”
I felt like I was shot all the way back to the first time I listened to TRS; their music hasn’t changed at all. This disappointed me at first because I was desperate for something new from them.
Two years have already passed since their 2010 release ‘Contra’, and we hadn’t heard much from the Vampire Weekend camp, but it seems they are ready for a come back with their first live performance in about a year at Pitchfork Music Festival
No clue what went down to require Travis to have the ’emergency’ version. Perhaps it was caused by the idiotic neck tattoos, who knows. C’mon already this guy is the king of death cheating and now I’m getting mad,
From my mid Hall seats, Blood Orange failed to do much visually, besides twiddle knobs, spank his synth and play electric guitar to his back up tapes. But his songs are so great, he still managed to impress with. completely new to me, songs off last years Coastal Grooves floored me
Its times like this when you cant help but wonder why stadiums aren’t filled at the mention of his tour. Ok, he hits some tanked notes but over all- its sung so passionately that it really doesn’t matter. The details of William Becketts break from the band for solo adventures is irrelevant at this poin
This is a new festival but these guys know their stuff: from the righteous price ($185 for a two day pass), to a DJ list that includes, Bassnectar, Skrillex, AVICII, m83. A-Trak.. a tremendous list.
Lets see Barbara is 70, looks fabulous, and has had a rather cushy life considering the majority of her fame came young. So why bother? Well a home town show is always good for a pocket full of millions but its also a great way to get your name back up the buzz list
Willis will also get a greater share of royalties than before, as he was merely getting 20% for any song with the old deal, and could now demand a one-third for ‘YMCA’ which has 3 authors
Stronger” has been hanging on for so long, it will be soon duking it out with Carrie. Of the two, Carrie is a purer strain of country pop product, Kelly kinda knows what she is and is willing to bend mostyly because she learnt her lesson a couple of years ago and released her only stiff against the advise of clive davis. Plus? they are both American Idol alumni. Kelly would’ve broken through any way.
Carrie Underwood is terrible live and her dozens of pro country songwriters all sound the same. Norah Jones is the Ambient of music. And B.o.B. won’t get a hit off his crappy pop move.
Regina in Somalia is drinking too much, thinking on some guy (?), and can’t sleep because the couple in the next room is fucking to one of her songs. I saw her perform this with just guitar at the Beacon in 2009… quite simply superb! Grade: A+
She can’t dance, she can’t even move very well, and she can only command the stage through her voice. I don’t think it was an off night but I do think she was being very careful and it inhibited her performance.
investors are going to organize the first CBGB music festival, which will take place from July 5-8 and showcase 300 indie bands at many venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as film screenings, panel discussions, workshops,… according to the Hollywood Reporter it will be modeled after SXSW.
Last year I went to see Girl in A Coma at the Studio At Webster Hall and was impressed if not overwhelmed. But Alyson Camus caught them a couple of months later and was blown away, which suggest maybe it was me or maybe it was really early on the tour
Do they always ask the permission? Do they always pay the label they sample from? And why a lawsuit now, years and years after the release of these albums?
Chris Isaak is a perfect person to celebrate the Sun Studios experience. That rockabilly look and twang is actually accurate to what made the Memphis Recording Service the landmark it is.
It sounds a little on the scary side, 15 songs over 10 tracks. Lotsa mental didggery do and guests like Iggy Pop and ?uestlove. Make you feel any better? Me neither. Incidentally, anybody who has a question mark in his name is an asshole by definition and the Roots suck
100%, yes 100 percent of the take goes directly to Strummerville charity. Strummerville is a registered charity that gives support to aspiring musicians and help to projects that help change the world through music.
Whoever agreed to this deal should be fired, and if Live Nation continue to throw money away, the next thing they’ll be signing is lawyers documents as they go Chapter 11
For the first couple minutes I thought I was going to love this song. The music really is vintage Elton John and the verse voice is fabulous its the chorus that made me cringe. Its the “yeah” that sounds far too rehearsed.
‘I’m going to have embarrassing moments’, he declared to Rolling Stone, ‘and that won’t be fun. But that’s part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they’ll be fairly kind.’
When did the world 'biopic' come in to fashion? I swear its a new one they used to be called biographys or documentary. Biopic sounds like a lab experiment involving
The floodgates are open and if you thought we had no attention span in the 1980s, you have no idea what it can be like in the 21st century: the immediacy of sound, choice, or life, is sci-fi like. If you stop and think about it, book and record stores died on us! We don’t have the time because we don’t need to give up the time.
In New York City, 148 people die every day. It is impossible to care unless they effect you. Oh, perhaps a baby is hit by a stray bullet in the Bronx, and you feel empathy and sympathy, but really really… life is for living
I Got News for You – Off! – This stuff never gets old, though Keith may one day. A speedy, noisy proto-hardcore three chord wonder off one of the Eps now snuggled into a first album, I haven’t seen them live yet but I will – Grade: A
With Nick Waterhouse’s music, you are bound for a complete time travel, even before the 60s had actually happened, in a time when female singers still sang these shooo-wop backup harmonies, when saxophones were a large part of the game, when it was all about ensemble.
Wolfe and Schooner come across as journeyman who can’t seem to twist away from the journey. Forget swimming pools and hookers, how about diapers and holidays in Disneyworld?
All well and good but still Twitter annoying. Until I saw the video. Let me tell you that getting video at the Webster is tougher than sneaking booze in to prom, so I am not sure how this can be ‘fan video’..but its outstanding.
I immediately disagreed with a few of the decisions made about featured artists; Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift were two featured artists that I was disheartened to see on Strange Clouds. However, after having listened to this album many, many times, I’ver ealized that B.o.B. got every detail of his songs right
I am a huge Van Morrison fan and have a working knowledge of every album he ever released. SO, with the help of Wikipedia… here is every Van album reviewed and graded.
It is absolutely fantastic how each time they have managed to catch a tiny detail in the photographs and expanded it to a bigger dimension, letting us enter into the life of these people,… and sometimes it may just be a sad and worried look of a little boy.
I am not a fan of biopics, they all turn to be about the same story, but movie producers keep making some, so I suppose one about Jimi Hendrix was unavoidable.
Yup, I am gonna try for both of them. Los Campesinos last two albums were disappointments and when I caugh em two years ago at Webster Hall I was aghast. But, like I said, two years ago nd Garth is a true original wacko and LPR is a terrific room.
rocknyc has interviewed Bryce twice and have found him to be an intelligent and deeply spiritual man. A refreshing sense in an ego stormed rock world. First up is a free dowload from the acoustic tour that took place last summer.
But wait, bookies are indicating that May 19th is the day to hit the DVR. Saturday Night Live guest host and musical guest is Mick Jagger. The question becomes who is going to back him? That God awful side project with the bad name or Charlie, Keith and Ron?
This music is so intensely beautiful it took me entirely surprise. I expected to give it a coupla minutes and move on. Pat has a beautiful soprano to falsetto voice with a disquieting edge. he sounds like he is haunting his own songs.
‘This isn’t tolerated whatsoever,’ an executive said. ‘We need to show more respect to the people at home. It’s like he can’t be bothered. This isn’t a mickey-mouse satellite channel, this is the BBC where high-production values are key. He’s making a mockery of the show.’
had talked about taking a vacation before, but always ended up in the studio after two weeks, so no one believed me. This time, though, I was serious. I was going to give myself a year to do the things I never get to do. Simple things like play with my nephew, pick him up from school, visit museums, go to concerts…
Automatic Systematic Habit – Garbage – Electronic hard rock dance that mess field day and Shirley is in very fine voice. If this is anything to go by, Garbage made it back. Grade: B+
No “Night Moves”???? But it really doesn’t matter, from “Skin The Cat” to, dedicated to Jake’s own Mama in the audience, “Take Your Mama”, to a set closing spectacular “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin'” which got an audience that hadn’t stood still dancing even more, it made SS claim that this was like playing the family basement all the truer and all the more intimate and more more more fun.
It was a very young crowd, at a few exceptions, constantly using their iPhones and jumping at the same time, the sort of ADD-multi-task-crowd that goes with this constantly-jumping-to-the-next-tune entertainment. Nothing goes on for a very long time, it’s all about the immediacy and the next song to come.
Its the arrogance that makes me want to kick him in the cup. As if he is doing us a favor by being so cool. The interview shows the more idiotic side of Manson as he whines about how the record company interfered with his art
