Girl In A Coma Win Best Alternative Album At Independent Spirit Awards

Last year I went to see Girl in A Coma at the Studio At Webster Hall and was impressed if not overwhelmed. But Alyson Camus caught them a couple of months later and was blown away, which suggest maybe it was me or maybe it was really early on the tour.

What did blow me away was the album, Exits And All the Rest . One of my faves of last year, it is more than the riot grrls in love Joan Jett signed band we were used to but a deepening of the concerns. Nina Diaz can actually sing a ballad!

So I was pleased to discover that Girl In A Coma won for Best Alternative Record at the Independent Music Awards (actually, it was a tie!).

The San Antonio band tours a great deal but not so much on the East Coast. They sold old Studio, next time they'll sell out Webster!
