In an interview with Rolling Stone, Vampire Weekend bassist Ezra Koenig said that they ‘do have a ton of stuff’, already done for their next album, which could be released later this year:
‘It would be cool if it was [released] this year. I always want to release music as soon as possible, but more and more I'm realizing it's something you almost have no control over. We just never want to be in a position [where] when we put out something, we feel could've benefited from more time.’
Bassist Chris Baio, who will also release his debut solo EP ‘Sunburn’ under his DJ name Baio on May 21, also said they have been working hard on the next album:
‘We've started many songs. Obviously we haven't been rushing it. We take it very seriously. We'll be incredibly psyched to share it with the world when it's done.’
Two years have already passed since their 2010 release ‘Contra’, and we hadn’t heard much from the Vampire Weekend camp, but it seems they are ready for a come back with their first live performance in about a year at Pitchfork Music Festival on July 13-15, in Chicago’s Union Park. There, they will probably preview a few tunes off this upcoming release,… we just have to wonder whether the next album will be the return of their joyous African pop-synth melodies in indie music.
