Reach Up (Papas Got A Brand New Pigbag) – Paul Oakenfold – One of the original DJ superstar, you get the feeling he never pushed a button and sat around for 8 minutes at a Festival. The relationship to either Brown or Pigbag is a little obscure, the drums ain’t Grade: B+

Dusty Springfield Tribute Broadway Bound

Tribute shows are tricky business.Youre either a parody or a scary wanna be. Without too much effort a great idea can become an almost insult to the integrity of an artist. We have all seen ‘bad’ impersonations. Although, most are done with love and hero worship they can still suck.

Pet Shop Boys' "Winner" EP Reviewed

The recently released EP Winner, offers up a study in perfection with the Bee Gees cover, “I Started A Joke”. Neil always sounds as though he is a part the start crying, and Chris is always like his kid brother, tugging at his sleeve.

What I Learnt About Music From Robert Christgau

When I started writing about music, I was heavy into punk. But one day I received an Ashford And Simpson album meant for another writer via the Village Voice. I called up Christgau and he recommended I listen to it, “You might learn something”. I did and I did.

Boys Noize XTCatic

I’ve seen quite a bit of dance music since then but I still love the guy. He is playing the Electric Zoo Fest at Randalls over the Labor Day weekend and in October will be pushing his third album with a full band and a new album.

For all its not inconsiderable powers, “Brigadoon” doesn’t rest in the Premier Division of Great American Musicals. For one thing, the story, about a village in Ireland that appears once every hundred years, doesn’t bear thinking about. And for another Lerner-Lowe were nearly but not quite there. “My Fair Lady” was eight years away! For a third, the movie was not that great. Still, this song is an undeniable classic – Grade: A+

Morrissey Rejects Olympics

As London is suddenly promoted as a super-wealth brand, the England outside London shivers beneath cutbacks, tight circumstances and economic disasters. Meanwhile the British media present 24-hour coverage of the “dazzling royals”, laughing as they lavishly spend, as if such coverage is certain to make British society feel fully whole

Anthony Raneri Acoustic at Vans Warped Tour

One thing I love about this is the fact that the crowd is singing it right back at him, with just as much emphasis as the performer. It’s so great, and hearing it live for the first time makes it now my favourite on the EP. It’s so catchy and fun, and it’s even better live

Spider Bags' "Shake My Head" Reviewed

It is about all the folks who will die in the same place they ere born in. It is about meaningless lives whittled away doing, drugs, smoking blunts, drinking too much, marrying and divorcing and spinning through your life with nothing to add to the conversation. It is a celebration of, unlike Bruce, not being born to run, but being born to chase your own tale thru your own life.

Pitbull's "Get It Started", Ft Shakira Reviewed

Pitbull is a genius he sings 99.9% about how ‘Worldwide’ he is and tosses in a few sentences about something to do with ‘baby’ and he hooks in someone to else (Usher, Chris Brown, Shakira) to actually sing. He should teach a course in this shit

Without a doubt, this is the worst important album of the year. It is a disgrace. Jordin stinks. OK, maybe she doesn’t stink stink but she is really what she is: an American Idol contestant. Ejogo stinks.

Sneak Peaks: New Releases Week Of August 6th, 2012

A coupla lifetimes ago I dated a girl who had just quit her job as a dom. “A wiggle and a jiggle” was her verby term (mean cheerleader a specialty, one guy wanted to dress up as a cheerleader himself and have her stick his head inn the toilet and flush it) ! The relationship lasted like three weeks but she worshipped Rob Zombie, and made me a fan, so, yup, there is that.

Television Lite August 5 – August 12, 2012

Here we are, right back to rerun land. I know the Olympics are the cause. There is virtually nothing worth watching on any major network due to the games. The thought being that the world is glued to the battle dome of idiots looking for medals. Truth is there is a fair amount of folks in each country who couldn’t care less about the Olympics

Active Viewin': Pick Concerts Week Of August 6th, 2012

My feeling about seeing the popular electronic French band M83 in an open air setting is one of expectation. I’ve yet to see the band live and feel it will be a straight drag seen from a million miles away (well, it is summerstage, a thousand miles away), On the other hand… Hurry Up, I’m Dreaming live on stage??? What’s not to like this Wednesday?
