In 2000, me and my friend Sherry stood outside the Tower Records in Herald Square for 90 minutes waiting for Ticketmaster to open and when it did we invested $104 each for nose bleeds to see Barbra Streisand at Madison Square Garden. Her "retirement" tour. One last night. Blah blah. But worth every penny, no openng act and all killer no filla. She would return to the venue in 2006 but with Il Divo opening and any way, I couldn't get a seat so who cares?
But I've had my eye on the Barclay Center this October, and while I couldn't get a tix in the pre or online sale, I kept on checking and all I found was an $800 Floor seat. Too rich for my bloody.
Till Tuesday, when I hit paydirt. Four hundred bucks. Yeah, sure it is pricey, and I hate put a limit of $250 on myself, but $400 is expensive, $800 I couldn't bring myself to do.
Missing Barbra when you can manage it is like missing Ella or Aretha or Billie or Peggy (Lee) when you can manage it. It is silly. You shouldn't do it. And so I won't…
