So Long Johnny Craig, Kicked off The All Star Tour
So lets get this straight, some dude was stretching. Johnny grabbed his leg with such old junkie fueled super power that said person is ‘shot for who knows how long’. What was Craig on? Bath salts?

Freedom is the freedom to abdicate responsibility for society. For a powerful black man to REFUSE to participate is really quite important. The great American secret is that it is such a great society that it gives people the power not to pay attention.
Even at face value, it is a romantic daydream for a post Great Depression world. It is not only hard for us to believe in their world, it was difficult for their audience themselves. It is a vicarious romantic thrill.
Both VV and NYP have terrible music sections. And the paper of record is not the paper of record when it comes to reviewing local concerts any more. On the web, Brooklynvegan do what they do, but really what they do is listings for indie bands. It is fine, and I love it, but it isn’t a recording of live local concerts.
Woke up this morning and picked up the Taylor Swift off Itunes, and then added Lupe, Rita and RHCP just because I couldn’t be bothered waiting till tomorrow to see if Spotify will have (no, they will have them, the question is WHEN). Beak is terrific.
I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know – Kenny Latimore – Here the great r&b man brings down the hammer on a great blues soul conglom, he lets it build as hard as it can as keyboards swirl around him, and then throws in glissandros just to keep us honsest – Grade: A-
a blue collar worker who reads Chekhov, a punk rocker who worships Captain Beefheart, a rock star who mends wheelchairs, a workingclass hero pondering his significance in the greater scheme of things, a man who goes everywhere and the jerk who stays at home. And the man behind the best album of the year raising a family and singing Bread songs.
The giant photos of Nick in his funky outfits and million dollar smile delighted the fans, but tender pictures of Valerie and Nick from their early days, really moved the audience and brought back some very fond memories. The music world has truly lost a legend and this was a great tribute.
from early 70s Brazilian bossa nova, to funk, samba, soul, jazz, cumbia and other Latino rhythms, each song could have been a melting pot of about everything, rather turned towards the past generations, but don’t be too fast at calling them retro.
I was watching the music video for “Timberwolves At New Jersey” in remembrance of the album and it totally reminded of me when I was a younger kid and really was into the new-punk scene. The song is flawless and wicked catchy.
What’s more important than the music? The packaging! The 2-CDs are wrapped in an LP-sized book of photos from the tour. The book also comes with liner notes talking through the tracks written by U2 bassist Adam Clayton!! SQUEEE!!
‘The activities of illegal ticket sellers threaten public safety by interfering with traffic and diverting valuable police resources from crimes of violence. These scalpers also rip-off unsuspecting fans, hurt legitimate businesses, and fail to pay taxes owed to the city — which ultimately harms all city residents.’
Now I am no fan of burial memorial- you’re dead, then then its time to stop taking up space. I don’t visit graves nor do I hold vigil. Once dead- its all just..done. But for those who find solace in having a ‘place’ to pay respects- there is no respect here
I see, now here is a question, maybe you noticed it, why has he cancelled his tour exactly? The rumor is Frank’s voice is acting up (that’s the reason why he pulled out of an earlier gig) but if that is the case, why the secretive nature?
Although some people, who had guessed it would be the announcement of a national tour, may be disappointed, the video released on August 7 for Waits’ song ‘Hell Broke Luce’ off his last album ‘Bad As Me’, is without any doubt some great cinematography.
“We’re playing by different rules here.” I certainly would have appreciated a little bit more concern on my part. I saw one person from the [U.S.] Embassy. One. And they didn’t really do much for me. They were just like, “Are they torturing you?” “No.” “OK, goodbye.” I didn’t hear anything from them.”
Saturday Night is modern metal music night at the Prudential Center, and the headliners is one of my favorite modern metal bands, Five Finger Death Punch!! They are such hard metal they sound like hardcore, and this looks like an evening of awesome handbanging.
How did Rihanna get back to my # 1? Is she on tour? And, and this weird, where is the Olympics bounce? Underworld and Arctic Monkeys? Hey, even McCartney? Why are they not anywhere to be seen???
Redlight (geddit) an are all girl English band with a house beat and a disco hear, Lawson a boy band though the US might have reach overload on this particular vibe.
The Descent – Bob Mould – His first release for Merge proves he hasn’t lost a step. Hasn’t added a step either. This is pretty good, maybe a little more: revved up guitars, nearly memorable melody Mould – Grade: B+
It is a wrangling, subordinating scene stealer of a voice and, at center stage, it takes over from both Lael’s nervousness and the bands overwhelming thereness. It takes care of Lael’s early reticence, it takes over the packed out theater. Her voice is her calling card, it is why we are here.
Never a fan of redneck rock, never flew the confederate and never messed with Texas BUT I have made a boatload of offensive jokes about the culture and will contine to do sol ‘Now, where my bic at and Tammy Jo git off mah cigarettes and lets fire up some Skinnerd Booyah’
Listening to Brion’s soundtrack manages to give a very good impression of the atmosphere of the film. With the course of 16 tracks, all transcribing a very cinematic imagery, we go through a roller-coaster of emotions, with heavy strings, scary synth, or desolated keys.
ack White and his all-female entourage showed up on the small outdoor stage and played a 20-minute set. It was announced at the last minute (I don’t know if I could have made it if I had seen it on time) and happened in a neighborhood not used to such things.
HE VUHHHN” is a cool song. It has some good quotables ‘ there a clock on the wall and it keeps my time’ among others. I wonder why these guys didn’t get bigger? They had that whole ‘Brat Pack” movie cult happening, with songs like “Pretty In Pink” but as great as they were in the 80s they never got mega
There certainly was sadness but also a real serenity coming from the music, with fuzzy or reverb-soaked guitars, the use of a muted trumpet or a keyboard on some songs and smooth vocals. They were five on stage and I have seen bands of 2 or 3 being much louder than they were, but that was not their point
Diamond receieved a scholarship to NYU for fencing, was a pre med student who wanted to cure cancer and dropped out 6 months before gradution. Started writing songs and well after a bit, he made more than any doctor could and had more underwear whipped at him than I’d care to fathom.
From the opening “Take Me To Manhattan” with a lovely gasping trumpet solo followed by a piano solo, all the way through to the bass walking last song finale, this is a trip through the Manhattan of both the 1940s, when jazz giants wrote the American standards, to the mid-1990s, as cabaret made one last stand.
Played bass on Miles Davis penultimate albums Tutu and Amandia, recorded in the mid 1980s and considered his last hurrah. And when Miller keeps to bass heavy funk jazz workouts here, the superb “Mr Clean” and the sanctificial “Detroit” this is pretty unassailably great. The rest of the album is too distracted from what it should be doing – Grade: B+
Remember Me – Diana Ross – Having just seen Valerie Simpson live Friday night, and discovering Diana was somewhere in the audience, I went back to this masterpiece from 1970. A stirring Motown giant of a song, “Remember me as a big balloon at a carnival that ended too soon”. RIP Nick – Grade: A+
Drunken Prayer are currently touring to support their last album, ‘Into the Missionfield’, that Geer describes as really orchestrated, with a lot of musicians on it, ‘I took the time to record it’ he said.
By subverting the expectations of beauty and ordinariness, it awakes the pre-teen girl, it asks for her to embrace her own and other peoples differences. The wicked ugly girl got the guy and the beautiful Glinda is not the hero of the story. No wonder it is so popular. It’s the right fantasy for a whole lotta people.
“I’ve always been a girl who loves to dress up,” says Gwen. “I already put my makeup on twice today: I put it on to take my kid to school, and then I went home, washed my face, and put it on again to have lunch with you.”
As a peer, I can say that though the attempt was decent, it was nowhere near what she could’ve made it. I hear a lot of potential in her voice and she just oversang it. She held notes too long, used a bit too much vibrato, and didn’t make it her own as much as she attempted to change it a bit.
Beck’s official website has confirmed that Beck’s next album will come ‘in an almost-forgotten form – twenty songs existing only as individual pieces of sheet music, never before released or recorded’
I heard three of these tracks earlier this year when TA opened for Fucked Up at Le Poisson Rouge and thought Stickles and band hadn’t missed a step, but listening to the video you will find at the bottom of this post, the two new songs sound a little ordinary
Emotion could be the key word to describe the album, as there is a lot of it throughout the 11 tracks, served by simple lyrics, and Gil Sandoval’s expressive and clear delivery.
When a proper elder gentry continuously offers hook ups with younger talent you cant help but think it a bit creepy. Ok the whole Lady Gaga obsession should be enough but do you think the world could have continued to spin without Tony and Mark Anthony?
The album is a complete disaster except for Whitney Houston’s “His Eye On The Sparrow” . Sure, she didn’t have the voice she once had, she was 47 years old for fucks sake. But really, on an album with Jordin Sparks and some Nigerian actress, there is no competition to mention.
Amen – Meek Mill – Featuring Drake, he is really quite lively here, but, note the caveat emptor: Maybach Music. This is kinda funny, sexy braggard, and the sample is excellent (a little piano motif). SO while minor, minor is an improvement with this posse – Grade: B
I usually sing from my heart, totally immersed in my world, and I think that’s why I am able to touch the audience differently
Is Redd Kross really punk? Their concoction of pop-glam-punk-rock is more complex, with its familiar rock’ n‘ roll big statements, it doesn’t seem to be tremendously avant-garde, but the band has always managed to make it sound as raw as possible.
Loudon was in fine form for this show, with most of the material coming from either recently released albums or unreleased songs
Attention fans: don’t believe everything you read on the internet!!! Jesus!!! Hahahaha”. “It’s funny how people are my fans after hearing about my prison sentence I served for fighting in the desert but read some random story online then completely flip the script on me and hate me
Why is nobody dancing? BECAUSE IT ISN’T DANCE MUSIC. M83 are selling themselves the wrong way, they don’t have a handle on how to really get the job done: they are revving up their engines, but they don’t play that sort of music
She is ‘every girl’ and has produced anthems to teenage confusion. A great songwriter? Yep. A great role model? Well aside from that John Mayer bit, I’d say yes. Successful and well spoken and I have yet to see a sex tape of her. Well done.
The interesting thing is this bootleg video has been up on Youtube since 2010 and is only now gainning attention. Why? Maureen passed away in 1994 no anniversary in site. Ringo? Is he up for something new? Just an odd time to resurface.
And her last record was to me very disappointing. She’s an amazing artist, and she deserves to be always looking ahead, like she did with her first album.
It happened again on Wednesday morning, he was wearing a black and red Manhattan Murder Mystery t-shirt, and he was carrying his back pack, that he never leaves, even when he plays a show
This is actually one of the saddest reports I’ve heard in a long time. The humiliation alone must be excruciating. I don’t even care for Travis’ music and this is just plain horrible. I’m going to leave the jokes to the late night guys.
