Imagine calling up Frank Sinatra and asking him to put down a track for your lovely wife. First off, thats a sweet guy. Second, thats a powerful guy. That guy? Ringo Starr.
As tribute to his wife Maureen, Ringo had Sammy Cahn rewrite the lyrics to one of the coolest standards of all time "The Lady Is A Tramp". I love this song, its so antiquated and so odd that it cant help but be the quirky girl anthem. So what did Cahn do? He reworked the lyric as only he could with the opening lines:
'There's no one like her,
But no one at all.
And as for charm
Hers is like, wall to wall.
She married Ringo
And she could have had Paul.
That's why the lady is a champ.'
Honestly I could have done better. If there is one gift I have it is the ability to parody a tune. Ask Iman, Im the master of it. Gimme a tune and I can rip it up.
The interesting thing is this bootleg video has been up on Youtube since 2010 and is only now gainning attention. Why? Maureen passed away in 1994 no anniversary in site. Ringo? Is he up for something new? Just an odd time to resurface.
The sound quality is pure booteg nostalgia. Thats ok though, it wasnt meant for distribution, just a nice song from a guy to his wife.
