Kanye West, This Crazy God’s Vessel

joke about Kanye West all the time, but he must be the most divisive musician ever, people either love him or hate him, he sure polarizes people, however I just don’t get the coverage that this guy can receive. He comes up with the most trite title and everyone is talking about i, when it is just a name

‘Salad Days: The D.C. Punk Revolution’ Documentary

The myth of the D.C. Straight Edge is another thing the movie should clear up, it just started as a reaction against venues with age restrictions due to alcohol consumption, and punk teenagers just wanted teenagers to be able to attend gigs. Despite the fact that MacKaye has never wanted to be a movement (that would have been very un-punk) the term has pursued him to this day, to his greatest aggravation.

That Was The Week That Was: February 23rd, 2015

The outpouring of sorrow over the death of Leonard Nimoy is not, and I think I can claim this with absolute certainty, nothing whatsoever to do with his singing, no not even “If I Was A Carpenter” or, god knows, “Highly Illogical”. Even so, Spock is an instrument of rock and roll culture and his cultural significance, his Pan-Universal Humanism, will hopefully hopefully, live long and prosper.

Let’s Active: rock nyc Concert Picks Week Of March 2nd, 2015

Gregory Porter is having some 2015, a top 10 album in the UK is great, and the loud and intense approval of your some of the biggest names in pop music, Sam Smith for one, should make this a big gig, but singing a duet with Van Morisson on Van’s next album? That’s BIG. You can catch Gregory yourself, alongside rock nyc friend, bluesman Tomas Doncker, on Sunday afternoon

Medium Cool: Talk Show Guest Of The week 3-2-15

Usually I am looking up and down the list for half an hour before catching the name of a must see artist but next week Kate Pierson is sitting in with the Seth Myers show for four nights, in celebration of her new album, the absolutely terrific Guitar And Microphones and therefore goes straight to the head of the class. The picture is of rock nyc friend and B-52s fanatic Michael Malone and her royal Kateness.

In Search Of The Ghost Of The MP3

Ryan explained that the format decided what should be excluded from the final audio file and that tests, determining which sounds were more important than others, were designed ‘by and for western-European men, and using the music they liked’. European men? What a surprise!

Are You Ready For A Brian Wilson’s Biopic?

This time it is Brian Wilson’s turn, played by the brilliant Paul Dano. I like this guy so this upcoming movie can’t be a total mess right? ‘Love & Mercy’, directed by Bill Pohlad (‘The Tree of Life’) from a script by Oren Moverman and Michael Alan Lerner, will be released on June 5th in a theater near you. The movie, which narrates the career of the Beach Boys and their rise to the top of the world of rock & roll, has a new trailer

Billy Corgan Nails Kanye West Big time

“I’ve been on that podium too and if someone got up on my stage I’d knock them out. I don’t care who it is I would’ve knocked them out … That’s my stage. I earned the right to be on the stage at that moment. That was Beck’s moment.”

The Big Huerta Met Blue Lou Reed

I painted it a couple days after his death. It was later used in a flyer and poster for a “Tribute to Lou Reed” night at Fingerprints Records that Rockford and several local Long Beach musicians played songs from his catalog in a tribute, held coincidentally, on the anniversary of JFK’s assassination

“I’m a not so regular person in a not so regular world, and I’m just making the most of it and embracing myself,” explains Makonnen (born Makonnen Sheran), who signed to Drake’s OVO imprint in Sept. 2014. The success of the gold-certified “Tuesday” has been explosive: it topped the Billboard

Arcade Fire’s Will Butler To Write A Song A Day About A Guardian News Story

I just wonder what subjects he will pick, it’s difficult to be optimistic about another ISIS beheading. Take any headlines on the Guardian website today, ‘South Sudan gunmen kidnap at least 89 boys from village near Malakal’, ’14-year-old Palestinian jailed for stone-throwing maintains innocence’ ‘Jewish magazine in Germany to be delivered in plain envelopes’ … ouch!

Van Morrison’s Duets: Re-Working The Catalogue Album Arriving March 24th, 2015 Could Be A Goodie

I thought let’s pass on the Knopfler track but then noticed which song it was and Knopfler channelling the Chieftains might be excellent but even if it isn’t, surely a Bobby Womack duet alone is worth the price of admission, plus Mavis Staples, Gregory Porter, Georgie Fame, Taj Mahal… these are good singers, these are guys we can imagine giving Van a little bit of competition.

Noel Gallagher: A Bigger Jerk Than Morrissey?

“If somebody puts that on the table, I’ll pack my bags in the morning and say, “How many gigs do you want?”. The thing that slightly annoys me is – and I know I’m the only one doing interviews – people assume it’s up to me. Let’s say I get up tomorrow morning, have a stretch, and say to my wife, “How about this Oasis thing?” It’s not up to me”

Sleater Kinney In Bob’s Burgers Fantasy

There is always something magical about seeing musicians in cartoon, it’s funny and cute and Carrie, Corin and Janet have never looked so powerful at what they are doing. They make the Burgers crew bounce, kick and jump to the riotous tune, ‘A New Wave’, which is of course one song off Sleater Kinney’s latest release ‘No Cities to Love’

Medium Cool: Talk Show Guest Of The week:

It is a toss up between Flo Rida on Kelly and Michael and Little Big Town on ellen, I like em both though I like Flo better, especially when he is just popping out which is the majority of the time. Though the one time I saw him live I was a little disappointed. I love Little Big Town as well, their last album was excellent. But no, Flo wins the week…
