This story is hilarious and a bit stupid but I couldn’t resist…. Kanye West was announced as the headliner of the UK festival Glastonbury and let’s just say that people started to protest, on Twitter and other social media, with sentences like ‘Kanye is going to play Glastonbury and its going to ruin my entire life’… ‘prayer circle for the people going to glasto and have to see kanye west when they don’t want to’… ‘Kanye West headlining Glasto? Is this some kinda sick joke?’… ‘Kanye West headlining @GlastoFest? Jesus Christ. Who next, Slipknot? Absolutely dreadful. #Glasto #KanyeWest #Glastonbury’
These reactions are true, there were positive ones too of course but these ones are funnier and this shows that Kanye is not so hot in the UK right now. A guy started this petition as a joke but it took off, really took off: The petition asks for a cancellation of Kanye’s act, it has right now almost reached 27,000 supporters, and there are 50 more signatures every time I refresh the page!
The petition, started by Neil Lonsdale, reads like this:
‘Kanye West is an insult to music fans all over the world. We spend hundreds of pounds to attend glasto, and by doing so, expect a certain level of entertainment.
Kanye has been very outspoken on his views on music….he should listen to his own advice and pass his headline slot on to someone deserving!
Lets prevent this musical injustice now!’
27,000 people took it seriously enough to sign it and leave funny messages like these ones:
‘Kanye sucks. I want to see real artistry. Someone like Beck.’
‘He believes his career some sort of public service. Saying he is like a soldier. As a soldier that was my last straw. he is egotistical, stupid, un-thoughtful and a disastrous musician. He is the scum at top of the ladder.’
‘Kanye is a psychopathically narcissistic moron with messianic delusions that have rightfully earned him the passionate hatred of virtually everyone outside of his fanbase. He is also a sellout, an attention whore and a massive hypocrite who usually undermines his own empty messages and gestures with his own egotistical hypocrisy, such as belittling others as being slaves to the corporations he ironically allows to fund him. Bringing him to Glastonbury will only cause ticket sales to suffer.’
Okay, there are tons of these, and you can notice that people are attacking his personality more than his music, despite people saying that a rap act doesn’t have his place in a rock festival.
So Kanye is a joke, but these Change.org petitions are a joke too, nothing, even 100,000 signatures, will prevent Kanye to headline Glastonbury, it’s a done deal!
However, with all this anti-Kanye animosity going on, I wonder how his music is gonna be received, Don’t you? Some people were hoping for the Foo Fighters or Metallica, and Kanye’s set is not going to sit well with them.
Kanye West supporters have responded by another petition ‘Cancel all other performers and rename the festival “Yeezus Tour’, which may be very funny but not that successful so far, barely 500 signatures, however the author has some humor:
‘With this being done, people will finally be able to understand that Kanye West is not only a great performer, but a great artist as well. Sign this petition to not only support artistry, but to support a person who can make the world a better place.
Maybe they could hire Beck to perform during an intermission or hand out popcorn or something.’
These people have a lot of time on their hands… and all this is as ridiculous as Kanye’s last honorary doctorate.
The person who started the petition? Has never been to Glastonbury.
