The Big Huerta Hunts Down The Big (studio) Cats, The Wrecking Crew

The fabled Wrecking Crew.

Anybody that has ever listened to a radio in the last 50 years has listened to The Wrecking Crew.

As most of you know, there was a group of dudes and one girl that producers often sought for their recordings due to the no nonsense and tasteful approach that these musicians brought to the table. These musicians were known as “The Wrecking Crew” and featured Don Randi, Tommy Tedesco, Hal Blaine Carol Kaye, Earl Palmer, Sonny Bono, Leon Russell, Glen Campbell, Steve Douglas..just to name a few. From the hits of Phil Spector to the genius of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, The Turtles, The Byrds, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, The Righteous Brothers, Sonny and Cher, Elvis Presley, The Monkees, The starting to catch my drift??? These peeps were THE players on all of your golden oldie hits of the sixties and some seventies. Now, there is a film that is finally seeing the light of day and is being released worldwide so now the entire general public will be hip to The Wrecking Crew.

Now when The Big Huerta was a kid, known as the little huerta, I used to think that Dennis Wilson was my favorite drummer. Well, lo and behold, I found out in my later years that the man behind those glorious riffs was none other than studio cat Hal Blaine. I met Hal a couple years ago and thanked him for all of the riffs that I stole and for making Dennis Wilson such a great drummer. Hal Blaine, El Hombre, enough cannot be said about the man. But dig, Denny Tedesco, whose father happened to be Tommy Tedesco, guitarist of The Wrecking Crew, started making this film in homage to his pop when he found out that Tommy was diagnosed with cancer and wanted to document the legacy of The Wrecking Crew. I have seen this movie. I have interviewed Denny twice. I have met Denny in person at a screening in Orange, California, and folks, from the bottom of my heart, I can tell you that this is one heckuva movie made by one heckuva guy. The wonderful music and artists involved and the wonderful behind the scenes stories makes this a movie that you never want it to end. The Big Huerta highly recommends this to all of my readers and FB friends and their families. It is just a fantastic feel good movie.

If you love music, especially the golden age of the 60’s then you will freaking love this flick. I am no Siskel nor Ebert but this is one fine talkie. My sombrero is off to Denny Tedesco, his pop, and all of those creative masterminds behind the music. Look for this film in theatres in your town soon. If you want more info on the back-story of The Wrecking Crew film, see my two interviews with Denny on jackaboutguitars website.

To the painting, this is for Denny Tedesco and is his property (sorry, not for sale), and I just took off on his “The Wrecking Crew” film logo and added my own colors and bits and pieces and highlights, all in acrylic. That is Denny’s father, Tommy Tedesco, in the corner, but not losing his religion (bad REM reference), watching from heaven, with love that only a father can have for his son. Wearing one of his trademark hats, he is looking down with a slight nod of approval…but not too much…we wouldn’t want Denny to know he hit one out of the park for all of us. Keeping him honest…Just kidding, it was an honor to interview Denny and to be a small part of this film’s success and to be able to give a little back to all of the incredible joy that these peeps gave the world and us, for truly the world is a much better place with all of their contributions in it…and isn’t that one of the reasons we are placed here on this planet? Albeit, for only a short amount of time.

Blessings to the Tedesco Family and to all of you readers and art gazers out there, I know you are there, you have contacted me and thank you, don’t be afraid to comment on any of this, good or bad….respects, TBH!
