3D Macca

Is this the future? Will we get a code to print a 3D sculpture of your favorite singer to go with any purchase? This is what is happening for Paul McCartney, except it doesn’t even come with a purchase, it’s totally free. 3D printing is all the rage right now and it’s amazing what people will be able to print at home in a few years, shoes, clothes, chairs, belts, or what not, a missing part for a car…. guns.  But what about a Beatle?

McCartney was scanned in 3D for his new video ‘Hope for the Future’ music video, and his website paulmccartney.com asked for the code…

‘We’re really excited to say the file is now available to any fan who wishes to try making their own!’ They announced. ‘If you’d like to get your own 3D Paul printed off, you have two options: either find a local or online printing company who can make it for you; or, if you have access to a 3D printer, you can try printing your own! For those of you looking to try it themselves, we have put together a guide below with the help of our friend Nate Petre at A-lt.me.’

So I can tell you that I have now on my computer a .stl file, allowing me to print a 3D Macca, and if you want it yourselves, you will just have to click HERE! [Please note, this file is around 50MB in size]

I am not gonna use it, I don’t own a 3D printer and it is a little too technical and too pricey for me, to get a little Paul sitting on my desk, but I can understand the appeal for fans. If you want to try, just go to McCartney website to get all the good advices… apparently this technology is far from being easy to use, and it takes some time to get the result: A 5-inch Paul will take the whole afternoon… And I was complaining about paper jam!

Just watch the video below to see how Macca got scanned! But if someone print it in white, I really want to paint it, it should be fun.
