If The-Dream wasn’t such a late arrival, the album might well have been in my top ten of 2012. As it is, the modern day Here My Dear is a wrecker of an album, a lyrical malfeasance on top of soulful dirges.
White Christmas – Michael Buble And Bing Crosby – This isn’t a particularly bad version, it culls a take off a Crosby Christmas special and through the magic of technology adds Buble, who is quickly becoming the American standards singer of choice. But all this forcing dead pop stars out of their graves and making them duet with people without their permission turns my stomach. It is grave robbing – Grade: F

Rolex – The -Dream, Cassie – With the advent of new r&b I have been wondering if maybe I don’t like it any more. But The-Dream is one soul singer who constantly knocks me out. This isn’t a great song, lyrics are a little obvious, the synth in the background is a touch light, and Casha Monet, his new find, seems like Ree Ree redux… still it catches your ear with ease and holds it – Grade: A-

It always saddens me just a bit to see those so young with such turmoil. At their age the world is on a string, whatever has transpired in their lives to cause them to lose this fact is a robbery of innocence too painful to endure. We forget how young these guys are.

Losing My Religion – REM – This is where it all came together and blew me up big, folk rock with a chip on its shoulder and moodwise an ancestor of new r&b. As for Stipe’s lyric? It rings with desire and disllussion – Grade: A+

Nelson has a powerful voice, figuratively and literally. He can sound both world weary and triumphant and the record rocks harder than typical long haired guy with bare feet publicity photo shots might lead you to believe (including some nice lead guitar and B-3 organ spots). Nelson has the goods. Hopefully his music will find the audience it deserves.
The Wanted are iffy singers, they aren’t that nice because they talk about other people and the things they say are horrible, but all I know is I will never be playing with lightning!

The video was entirely made by fans who shared for two weeks their instagram pictures inspired by the lyrics of the song, since the band had tweeted and instagrammed the lyrics before releasing the song,.. a totally original way to make a video.

Watching a concert on TV is to watching it in person is exactly what watching porn is to having sex. Even the least intimate of venues, even Hydepark at the back of 500,000 people is more intimate than watching it on television,if, for no other reason than you are among other people.
The answer is obvious. Shorter albums. Cut out the crap if it is crap. Better quality control. Stop filling space. It is like everybody has become Prince in the 1990s, they won’t stop releasing music. And stop with the remixes. Perhaps the music biz would make more money if they changed the recording music paradigm.

Wow! The charts this week are as stale as a fruitcake but then again so is popular opinion. Did you happen to catch Michael Buble when he was on Saturday Night Live doing Christmas Duets? Could well be one of the most hilarious bits of all last season. Buble is the new Harry Connick Jr- pure Christmas material, plain and simple.
State Of Grace – Taylor Swift – One of Taylor’s best songs though it took awhile to catch on, the killer pay off, “Love’s a ruthless game unless you play it good and right” has three very very strong words and Swift nails each and every one of them. And the sound is exuberant, it is darkly shaded (which is why it took awhile) but that’s because that “unless” is right on top of you – Grade: A
the Stones just had their 50-year anniversary celebration all over the east coast and haven’t played any dates on the west coast,… plus there was already a rumor they were playing Coachella last year and it didn’t happen
