The second single in My Chemical Romance’s Conventional Weapons series, titled Number Two, was released on the 23rd of November and is hopefully giving all MCR fans hope for a fantastic album. Number Two is comprised of the tracks “Ambulance” and “Gun” and both tracks are ridiculously fantastic. In both tracks one sees the best elements of each of My Chemical Romance’s previous albums combined to create something almost new, which I think is a great way of composing a new album.
The A side track on Number Two is “Ambulance”which has quickly become one of my favorite MCR songs since its release. Perhaps this is because the chorus is similar to the first song I heard by the band, “Helena”, in that it makes you want to stand up, throw your hands up, and shout the lyrics til you’re hoarse. I found that, with MCR’s previous album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, the songs that should have had the same passionate singing aspect to them fell just short of the level of awesome at which “Ambulance” clearly stands.
The B side track of Number Two, “Guns”,is much more reminiscent of Danger Daysbut brings in more of the symbolic-story aspect that MCR fans love the band’s third album The Black Parade for. What I particularly like about “Guns” is that it’s a musically brilliant song that has lyrics which, upon listening more closely, make a brilliant statement about war and soldiers. “And if I’m old enough to die for your mistakes/Then let’s go/Can I bleed enough to fill up what the engine takes?” and “They’re teaching me to kill/Who’s teaching me to love?” are just a couple examples of the lyrics in “Guns” to which I’m referring. Lyrically pleasing songs are the best kind of songs, making “Guns” a great companion to “Ambulance”.
My Chemical Romance seems so far to be back on their game, giving me very high hopes for the rest of Conventional Weapons. The next single in the series, Number Three has been released as of December 18th. Number Four will be released on January 8th of 2013, and Number Five(the final single in the series) on February 5th
