Lori Maddox: Greatest Groupie Of Them All

If the day of the superstar groupie isn't over, the day the Pamela Desbarres walked the earth seducing drugged out rock stars from London to L.A., they might as well be. They certainly lost their cachet along the way.

Yes, they went from band aids to escorts in a decade and the blame goes where it always goes with when puritism bests sexual freedom in the 1980s: to AIDS. Or maybe not that simple, maybe Punk, with its anti-sexual antagonism and PVC and bondage fashion made a mockery of desire, started a backward trend to, as Rotten once dubbed it "15 minutes of squelching".

But in the early 1970s glam and sex went together and groupies, well meet Lori Maddox. Lost her virginity to David Bowie at the age of 13 and dated Jimmy Page at the age of 14. This is off the Groupie Central website: "Lori Maddox was part of the wild Hollywood teenage groupie scene in the early 1970s. She reportedly lost her virginity at age 13 to David Bowie and Angie Bowie. One of her best friends was Sable Starr, who was the unofficial queen of the scene at the time. Lori, who was also known as Lori Lightning and Lori Mattix, wasn't as experienced as Sable, but Lori also became a regular at famous Hollywood groupie hangouts, like the Rainbow Bar & Grill, Rodney's English Disco, the Continental Hyatt House (also known as "The Riot House"), and the Whisky. Like Sable, Lori was often featured in Star magazine (a short-lived '70s magazine, not the Star magazine that's currently a tabloid), which often had articles detailing the activities of music groupies."
