According to New York Daily News, a backlash has begun again on poor ol# Kanye West. It is sorta like the US version of a Fatwa, for sins against the God of irrelevant music, West must suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.
Well, fooey to that.
I have no idea about his girlfriend Kim Kardashian and could care less but this I know. Both "Clique" and "Mercy" were really good songs and while Good Music wasn't, his performance at 12-12-12 was the onl;y one that came within a million miles of being relevant music. Like, even the Nirvana stuff was a grunge portrayal which peaked 20 years ago. Even Keys was not important.
West was important rock and roll, a sound that made sense in 2012 and broke through the morass of nostalgia and into the 21st century with an inspired take on his career. All bass and rapping, without an ounce of respect for the hallowed halls or the needs of the performers around him, or an audience of millions upon millions. As everybody over a certain age went to the rest room (something i didn't notice, anybody who stayed was treated to the greatest hip hop artist in the world today. Vastly superior to Jay-Z at Barclay's Center earlier this year, this was a statement of artistic integrity in a sea of solemn bullshit.
Of course, no good deed goes unpunished and so it is with Kanye. Apparently his NYE gig hasn't sold out and every one is sick of him and his girlfriend and like anybody who loves music cares.
West blew everyone from Springsteen to McCartney off stage. If this is Kanye West's curse we should all be so lucky.
