We’ve been having fun all summer long? The first two songs are songs of the summer, and now that I have to admit I overated “This Is Love”, it looks like it is going to remain that way TFN!

Amazon lowered their prices for 5 weeks to a dollar a holla for many of these albums and that explains the strange inclusion of so many oldies (well 2011). What does this mean? It means the charts are a disaster area and getting more and more irrelevant!
The penultimate song off the album (just before “The End”), is a beautiful ballad much less of meter and away from the expected melody line than the rest of the songs. A barely veiled love song that might have raised some eyebrows if Ocean hadn’t already outed himself: “you are my fine boy, running on my mind boy”? Grade: A
He could have played for another hour and nobody would have noticed it. It was like a musicial puzzle and you couldn’t stay one step ahead of him. He was modulating the tone with knobs, and bending the strings and making em wobble and vibrate and all for what? The sheer pleasure of sound
It was a good choice for a band which was opening for Blind Pilot, and the young crowd reacted with enthusiasm to their upbeat and catchy rhythms, even clapping along a few times,… what is the deal with all that clapping anyway?
Splash need time to improve the act. Better songs, steal a coupla melodies if they have, cut the chat by half, work the tempo, remember they’re a dance band and wanna make lots of money. But the glitter, the fun, the sparkles on strangers head? The beats? They all stay.
This year at WarpedTour, they are doing an acoustic “basement” stage, where lead singers can go and perform solo, or bands can do acoustic sets. I am BEYOND stoked for Anthony Raneri’s solo there, but I heard that Into It. Over It. was partaking as well…
Includes established rock stars Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry; the soulful sounds of Ray Charles, James Brown, Jerry Butler, and Bobby Bland; as well as the first “girl group,” the wonderful Shirelles. Also, a little label in Detroit which eventually would be called Motown was open for business.
‘This record is about a lot of things, but some of it is about coming home after being away and facing the realities of one’s life, and life in general. Things you may have run away from, and things you are ready to embrace. Reconnecting and growing up.’
The geezers were to play Webster Hall in celebration of the CBGBs Festival (which is getting zero post event coverage for some reason) but nope, Harley decided to fuck it up and in exchange for his antics got a broken leg free of charge from the NYPD.
Their full-length ‘Voyeur’ is out since July 10th and this playful achievement can be streamed in its entirety on soundcloud! Having streamed it once, I can say that the eleven songs are as diverse as they are typical Saint Motel, all of them showcasing their undeniable upbeat and inventive style,
Why is this not infuriating people yet? Better yet why do so many ‘big media’ people chose not to cover one of the most unjust legal issues in rock and roll. Is Lamb of God just not big enough? Is it because he isn’t dead?
These recitals began in 2009 and I went to the first one featuring the terrific Brazilian baritone, Paulo Szot, who was in “South Pacific” at the time. It was a fine, though not flawless, performance. Though that opinion is coming from a layman when it comes to opera. If you are like me, then this is a great way to get your high culture for low rent.
When last heard from they were cutting all album reviews to the length of a tweet. I don’t mind the arrogrance, or even entirely disagree with the concept, what I don’t dig is the writing.
What this doesn’t tell me is what direction the older No Doubt has gone. Is Gwen still singing teenaged love songs are they keeping that ska undertone (note horns)? Well I suppose that’s why they call these ‘teasers’.
n retrospect, whatever the early Run DMC were, what they weren’t was agro: rather, the youngster from Hollis, an original teenage phenom that many, many people, calling it just rhyming, didn’t get at the time, were way to sweet natured to be a threat.
“I need you and you’re always on my mind”, Longstreth croons, on this straightforward song of deep emotional attachment and love: a perfect song, with the sweetest of melodies and as straightahead devotional as anything you’ll hear this year. Grade: A
Opening and closing with straightforward folk songs, and performing 11 out of 12 tracks off their an hour away from being released follow-up to their breakthrough album, 4 off their breakthrough album and 1 from the Bjork collaboration, on the first night in the US (and fifth date) of their 2012 Summer tour.
Roots reggae music since its birth has captured the simple message to spread peace while managing to simplify the most complex of human emotions; Love. Lake Tahoe’s Reggae Festival found a way to exemplify peace and love and break hiatus from the trials of life.
There was something very natural and calming about their performance, with the gentle guitar strumming, the contained and sparse drumming. However, the music could engage the audience in a lot of clapping as their sound was growing louder and more upbeat on some songs
Why the kinder gentler rock nyc? because we just claimed that their Music Festivals had the appearance of not appropriate contact been the bands and the people who write about them, and whingeing that they are the biggest buncha boring bastards you ever got stuck on an elevator with is besides the point.
Devo’s documentary “Are We Not Men” seems a little too cult like niche but when it started its Kickstarter campaign it had a goal of $25,000.00, with more than 25 days left of their campaign they’re at $39,000.00.
Wonder what the real meaning of this was- wonder if it would matter. See that’s why I have no place with your audiophiles- I’d much rather figure it out myself then know that the lead singer had a dentist appointment so he wrote the lyrics under the influence of Novocain….
The wild woman of rock Urbani has had a busy week: topless in Austin, headlining at Bowery Ballroom and now marriage!! And who is the lucky guy? Opening band, disco divas Splash’s multi instrumentalist Etienne Pierre Duguay.
Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra have just released a new video for the song ‘Want it Back’, and I must admit I would probably not have watched it if it hadn’t been advertised as ‘uncensored’. Yeah, Amanda likes to be naked, she celebrated the success of her Kickstarter campaign by parading in a car park in Brooklyn
I used to think this was the band of the future. I thought Alesana was the next big thing. I no longer feel that way. Bad management poor promotion and little to know real support.. its just a matter of time.
Bloomberg speculates that iTunes will ‘more closely integrate its iCloud file-storage service with iTunes’ in order for users to have easier access to their music and videos, and will have new features for sharing music.
Well I suppose The Bangle girls took off and had kids and became soccer moms but Susanna is back with a solo offering titled “Someday’, what bugs me? Its being referred to as ‘intensely personal’, well if that’s the case keep it to yourself. What the heck is that all about?
After watching a dodgy show at MSG where the Strokes got run outta Dodge by Elvis Costello and a coupla years down the line from their worst album and even further from Casablancas excellent solo album (and tour), only “Taken for A Fool” remains of the entire debacle.
I am going to see 10cc Friday night and if I wasn’t it would be Killer Mike and El-P , so please get to the free concert at Pier 17. I promise, next time she plays locally I am gonna try and check her out.
White (feat John Mayer) – Smooth jazz with sparkling minimal bass throbs and supper club lo-fi guitar notes; a dream world sound to the album seemingly unwilling, like the pearly gates! – Grade: A
Jan Xavier discusses the New York music scene of the 1970s and why the Nitecaps, his great rock and roll soul band of the early 1980s, didn’t break through.”I have no bone to pick. I am one of a million people who has recorded an album that wasn’t a hit .I got to do it. “
“We always wanted it to be soul music without being purist, or slavish- I’ve always had a healthy skepticism for purism in any musical form. So we really wanted to turn it on its’ ass, and filter soul through our rock and roll sensibility, which was predominant for us”
Scream It Like You Mean it has become one of he most anticipated shows of summer. Its like the prequel to Warped and Mayhem. Gets us New Englanders ready for all the festivals. The difference, and its a great difference is that the shows are much smaller and much more friendly.
Historical relevance comes secondary to the basic listener quality test. In 1963, the Beatles were beginning to conquer the U.K., Bob Dylan’s artistic vision was becoming a reality, and Brian Wilson developed a new form of timeless pop music.
In penile, postpubescent rock, the generation is five years; it’s not 25 years. It would have been worse if I was still knocking out stuff that sounded like my first record but not as good
So why is 50 Cents still in the closet? Or, as a matter of fact, why is there is no major rapper out? Serious studies have shown that around 10% of the population is gay, although numbers vary a lot. But let’s also say that art and music attract even more gay people than other professions, it is just a fact.
I for one have no beef with it. New LCD would be welcome in my ears if it wasn’t lame of course. But wheres the credibility? Suddenly they’re going to be like the Eagles. Enough- either end it or don’t. Zombie bands are silly.
The tune is unimpressive, the lyrics pointless and the vocals so beautiful they send a chill up my spine. So how to judge? Weigh the good vs the bad? There really is no bad, there is mediocre and brilliant
“I don’t see why these things should be illegal if the correct information is out there. Here’s the problem – you can kill yourself with two tablespoons of table salt. Are you now going to ban table salt?
The only artists in the lineup I am really familiar with is the excellent Echo Park quintet NO, but this will be more bands to discover,… also I have heard good things about Superhumanoids
This fairly obvious concept was beyond the abilities of the people who are making the Big Boi starring, atrociously named “All By My Side” movie version of Jimi Hendrix’s last day without any songs written by Henrix. No “Crosstown traffic”, “No Purple Haze”, just the covers like “All Along the Watchtower”.
DP and Ocean we were expecting but any time P.O.D. -easily the best Christian rock band this side of Devil Wears Prada, it is a good week. Otherwise, hip hop takes a holiday!!!
This was not simply Devoto’s band in 1977. Surem he was behind “ba dum ba dum” but Shelley owned that guitar riff and air lifted it to their first solo album. Grade: A+
They have taken a major calling card for Brooklyn hipsters, the jag of rhythm from disco, funk, African, and brought it to the mainstream. They have a stunningly competent leader who radiates fun and energy but not excess or danger, and they have a clutch of great pop songs.
Antonee First Class, the ‘Toaster’ adds a wonderful element. Not quite Wakelings straight man and not the flamboyance of former Beater Ranking Roger, I found him to be charismatic and ridiculously talented. I would have loved more movement from him but hey the stage was small.
Roger Waters takes a stand with his political beliefs by using different animation and video effects during the show from the symbolism used to depict the futility of war by using corporate and religious icons as images of bombs being dropped from airplanes; to paying tribute to ordinary people caught in conflicts where they paid the ultimate price
a ranked equestrian and on the reserve list to compete for the US Summer Olympic, and at the top of this, is a Duke University student preparing a major in psychology. And as you can see, the boss’ daughter is also very cute
The second we walked into the local bar we were heckled by a toothless, long white haired, six foot two, one hundred ten pounds wet man whom clearly knew we didn’t belong. We shrugged it off until later he came over to us all at the pool table. Grabs hold of me and gets in real close to tell me that he is going to teach me a few things.
If there was a perfect way to get the buzz started about an upcoming album, I’d say releasing “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” was it. This breakup song has that familiar “fuck you, we’re done” feel for which Pink has becomeso famous
