Run DMC To Reform

I saw Run DMC at MSG back in the day, Beatie Boys opened, and while the evening ended with horse backed police surrounding the arena as fights between black and white fans broke out all night long.

In retrospect, whatever the early Run DMC were, what they weren't was agro: rather, the youngster from Hollis, an original teenage phenom that many, many people, calling it just rhyming, didn't get at the time, were way to sweet natured to be a threat.

With news that the both Run and DMC will get together for a reunion concert , thought DJ Jam Master Jay was killed in a drug deal gone wrong, years ago, I went back to the music that sounds way old fashioned but the absolute building blocks of modern hip hop. Maybe Elvis Presley compared to Bruce Springsteen.

Still, RUN DMC without Jam Master Jay is a little like the Beastie Boys without MCA. Can a New York gig be far behind? I am so there.

"Legendary rap troupe Run Dmc have announced that they'll be reforming for a festival appearance later this year. The group will be playing Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas that runs between November 2nd to November 4th, the first shows that Joseph Simmons – now known as REV RUN -and Darryl 'Dmc' MCDaniels will have played since DJ Jam Master Jay was killed in 2002. According to the organisers, some of the proceeds from the festival will be going to the JMJ Foundation For Music which was set up in the wake of Jay's death to provide access to art for youths."
