Blur aren't visual really they're just some guys with amazing talent and a great history who are back and strong. They have come in to focus again most notably for being bestowed the honor of close the London Summer Olympics.
With that honor came responsibility to create. Create they have Two new songs are due out on August 6th on a limited press vinyl 7". The Song "Upon The Westway" is anticlimactic visually. Just a group of bored guys in the studio with headphones on. What's entrancing is how vocalist Damon Albarn's croon connects. Adding a moody melodic tweak to an otherwise pulse less tune.
Blur have been around since the late 80s and are attributed with being the masters of Britpop/Alternative. Simply said they were Brit hipsters and damn good ones.
The tune is unimpressive, the lyrics pointless and the vocals so beautiful they send a chill up my spine. So how to judge? Weigh the good vs the bad? There really is no bad, there is mediocre and brilliant- so this tune will sit straight in the middle of falling short of expectation.
I hope this isn't just a summer romance. Blur popping back up on the scene but if in fact they are back for good we're going to have to reconsider exactly what direction they need to take. Well they do. Sleepy or is it called 'shoe gaze' is so last month. Pioneers need bold baths. Lets not rest on 30 year old laurels
