Is going naked still considered taking risks these days? I am not sure, but for some reasons, there are people who still find chocking to see a naked body (does Erykah Badu ring a bell?), and punk cabaret goddess Amanda Palmer knows it. I am not particularly familiar with her, I just know she has supra-devoted fans who helped her raise $1 million during her Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming album ‘Theater is Evil’, and that she likes controversy; she has even a video banned in the UK, because it was ‘making light of rape, religion and abortion'!
Amanda Palmer and The Grand Theft Orchestra have just released a new video for the song ‘Want it Back’, and I must admit I would probably not have watched it if it hadn’t been advertised as ‘uncensored’. Yeah, Amanda likes to be naked, she celebrated the success of her Kickstarter campaign by parading in a car park in Brooklyn, wearing a dress made of balloons, that fans were bursting one by one until she was completely in the nude.
So In this new video Amanda’s naked body is uncensored (big deal when you have shown it a million times before) but it is also the canvas for the inked lyrics written along the song. It is a stop-motion animated video created with Australian director Jim Batt and it is well done as the lyrics scrawl faster than you can read along her chest, body parts, legs, before reaching the sheets, an iPad,…
Palmer declared while talking about the video:
‘I'm so comfortable being naked at this point that I almost forget … I'm also proud that that video has nudity, but it isn't sexual or erotic … it's using the body as a raw canvas, which I love.’
And what about the song if you are still listening? It is a pop-rock piano-driven foot-tapping tune with Amanda’s rather aggressive vocals, but did you really listen to it?
