I can’t believe Saint Motel has released a debut album, I have seen them live so many times in Los Angeles, that I have the impression they have already a few albums behind them, whereas they had only released a 6-song EP in 2010.
Their full-length ‘Voyeur’ is out since July 10th and this playful achievement can be streamed in its entirety on soundcloud! Having streamed it once, I can say that the eleven songs are as diverse as they are typical Saint Motel, all of them showcasing their undeniable upbeat and inventive style, their talent for producing dance-spree numbers and overall infectiously catchy songs.
There are a few tunes we already had the pleasure to listen to as singles, like the ridiculously addictive, Latin-inspired ‘Puzzle Pieces’, the crazy and deliciously retro ‘Benny Goodman’, and one of my favorites of the album, ‘1997’ which has one of the most dopamine-booster piano lines. And if you have attended one of their explosive live performances in the past, there are a lot of chances you had already heard their signature-sounding and combustible ‘At Least I have Nothing’, or even ‘Stories’.
But there are a few more entertaining numbers, like the festive opener ‘Feed Me Now’, the three-part-amusingly-named song ‘Daydream/Wetdream/Nightmare’, the contagious-at-the-first-listening ‘Honest Feedback’, the Depeche-Mode-ish ‘You Do It well’,… Actually it’s all about being amused and entertained and 'Voyeur' installs a block-party of exuberant energy over the lapse of eleven musically-diverse songs and many poppy-happy choruses. So listen to it, buy it, and go see Saint Motel live!
