For years not rocknyc has covered the intense ‘Scream It Like You Mean It’ tour and this year was by far the most fantastic of all.
Held at the infamous Worcester Palladium the thugs arrived in rare form ready to mosh the hell out of the old movie house and that is exactly what was done.
The line up was electric with some of the hottest hardcore band in one place for one sweaty night in MA. Don’t kid yourself being uncomfortably hot is what is all about. The sweat helps you glide when you're crowd surfing.
I was a bit disappointed to not have the chance to see the mega hot Woe, Is Me. But what I was able to catch was intense. Can you stop for yet another moment of appreciation for We Came As Romans?
This band never fails to hit it out of the park with some of the most face melting guitar work. Those guys were right out in the crowd giving back to the fired up crowd. You have to find time to really get in to what the band is saying. They say hardcore is all violence and no brain WeCar proves that lyrics in rock and roll can inspire and empower more than we realize. It was great to see Josh totally ripping it up after last years health scare. That freaked all their fans out. It was awesome to have them right out in the crowd with us.
I know Helen had a bad show with Abandon All Ships awhile back but these guys are the real deal. Yeah, they get a bit to ego box at times but when you cut to the chase the musicianship is insane. I think I lost a long in that pit, if you find it gimme a call. The brotherhood of hardcore fans was alive and loud. The club was drenched in sweat and thank God the floor is so sticky in that place or people would have been slipping from it.
There is no better place to see a hardcore show than the Palladium, its a disgusting hole of a building that just begs for the dark power of good metal or core. I hope that parking lot stuff is just a rumor.
Scream It Like You Mean it has become one of he most anticipated shows of summer. Its like the prequel to Warped and Mayhem. Gets us New Englanders ready for all the festivals. The difference, and its a great difference is that the shows are much smaller and much more friendly. Sorta like a local show with national acts. The show has the perfect name too. Screaming is something we did til our throats were raw.
You'd think that a show with a sponsor like merchnow would be a huge sales pitch but its not. Yeah there is merch but its all about the music. I scored a shirt just the same. Support these guys who give so much every night.
Headliner Attack Attack never fails to impress. I have to say I was even more impressed than usual. I thought they would fall a bit flat. Getting tired so to speak but from the moment they hit that stage everyone energy was charged up again. They werent the strongest showing of the day but they earned the headlining spot. With the heat there were rough times when I wasn't sure if I was going to pass out from dehydration or something but when the band hit that stage, BOOM, I was fine. Coolest thing is if you can leave a show and see someone being taken out on a stretcher- hope that dude was ok, but yeah things got rough.
Shot some pictures and had my bro Mary Magpie put together this video of the night with 'To Plant A Seed' by WeCar as its soundtrack.
